All studs are same length in lots of kits.
The stud perpendicular to the valve is 1/2 turn backed from the valve.
Look at the top left stud protruding the nut.As much as the valve one.
And it is torqued all the way in.Attached FilesLast edited by pasbogdan; 1 March 2015, 20:41.Comment

we used the the spring type valve [ narrow /hole] as the alloy block didn't have as much metal to drill the bigger hole [ new block didn't even have any oil ways drilled until we got it ] that's req for the normal valve . maybe our valve not seating correctly so we getting to much oil passing straight to head ? will speak to keith at dylnx tom, he has worked on many alloy blocks . by the way we set several top ten times on the rally yesterday but but pulled out today due to oil issues

Older project,100% different protrusion of the studs into the block. Why?I imagine the machines used for drilling and tapping did not used same drill and tapping tool for all years of production of i5 engine blocks.I am also not 100% sure the main cap face where the nut/shim goes is at the same distance measured from main line center from a lot of blocks to another.
I can see no problem here. The stud over the check valve just need to be hand tight(like other studs) or little turn back.Attached FilesComment

going a bit off topic here with all this chat about stud length I already knew about the problems /caution fitting arp . Our problem is a vast amount of oil comimg out of back of cam cover breather into a swirl pot which has a filter and has a drain pipe fitted at bottom of swirl pot back to sump , below oil level [ not above] on the road last week it was a bit fumey but on the rally at full chat it threw out so much oil , est 2ltrs in 10 miles that even the drain back to sump couldn't keep up , therefore oil spewed out of the filter on top the swirl pot , its almost as though to much oil is getting up to the head which points to this check valve , but also not helping , on the Alloy block [which im using] the oil drain holes back to bottom of block are a fair bit smaller than the holes on a iron blockComment

As Andy said, try moving the breather from the back of the cam cover to the top, that's how the works rally team did it

that's on the hit list for sure.
vent top middle . is it poss to measure the amount of oil going into top of head to compare the volume im getting to a standard aby say on engine being cranked over . Also it would be good to time and compare how long it takes for a set amount of oil poured over the cams/ head how long that takes to drain down block with engine not running just to see if the alloy block drains slower than iron block , but prob to many varations to get accurate results ?, i.e oil grade needs to same on both tests

Consolidation of Marcel C.'s Oil Pressure Check Valve Videos
Here is a video that shows an non-shortened ARP stud protruding into the check valve area, even though it was just "wrist tight"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jui0...ature=youtu.be Not sure about his "another 3/16 inch" comment but it would be more.
This came from a hyperlink with the AAN Oil Pressure, etc. link I posted previously in this thread, specifically:
