    wobbly crank pulley, rs2

noticed with the engine running the crank pulley looks very slightly wobbly. i have read the damper can come apart causing the wobble.

my question is how pressing is it that this is replaced? dont want to risk any engine damage! or will it just stop driving the aux belts. i have not had a chance to inspect the pulley yet.

crank pulley is quite expensive around £300 i think so want to budget for this if its something that needs sorting as a priority. keen to get the car taxed and take it for a blast this weekend!

    many thanks

Of all 10 of my s2's I've owned most at some point have had this and although on idle seem to wobble they do run true when you pick up the revs . Mine ran for years like this , not saying you shouldn't replace the pulley/damper etc

The pulley is not really the worry its the sprocket that drives the cam belt. I would not run the engine until you have checked it out.

yeah i heard they cracked. the cambelt has been done on the car in 2010, and has done approx 10k miles since. if i read right it cracks when people use impact guns to undo/do up the crank bolt. if it were cracked im sure it would have gone bang by now? car was driven 400 miles to me on saturday.

when i change the belt as a precaution i will replace the sprocket with a steel version as offered by a forum member as an upgrade. im more worried about the pulley as thats visibly wobbling.

i can check the pulley out anyway, where can i find locking tool so i can undo the bolt without impact gun? or can a home made tool be used?

if i remember rightly its bloody tight lol!

                  I hear you!
Well the ABY/ADU tool is available to buy but not cheap - around £80 IIRC.
The one linked above is for a 7A / 3B but can be made to work on ABY/ADU by welding material onto the gapped ring that fits into the pulley - the ABY/ADU one id deeper than the 3B one if that makes sense.

Otherwise Maybe there is someone local who can lend you one, try putting up a wanted ad

                    Error,

That 3B / 7A one is annoyingly cheap.

Do you have slink for the ABY one, as I'm not a fabricator unfortunately.

                    Thanks.

                      ABY/ADU 3256 Locking Tool

IMHO the 3B tool that slots onto the snub bracket is better than the ABY one
