    2.6 cabriolet ecu change problems

I have just tried changeing the ecu in my wife's 2.6 cabriolet in an attempt to fix some running issues. The original ecu is part no 4A)0 907 473D, and the other one is 40A 907473k.
I fitted the ecu and the car started then died. Is this the key code or immobiliser possibly.

I believe that it could be the immobilizer.
Had the same issue with a noncoded spare key.

Just had a check on KATE and definetely the two ECUs should be the same.
Accordingly with KATE one it's the substitute of the other hence should be fine realted to the ECUs.
      Immobilizere once again IMHO

eliminato il 01/05/2000 usa come sostituzione= elimiminated 01/05/2000 use as substitute....

No idea but I advise you to drop a PM to "prj" if there's somebody that knows everything about ECUs that's him for sure"
          Otherwise go to Audi dealer.
I had a friend that changed an RS4 ECU and eventually Audi dealer recoded ECU to immo.
          Same behaviour as yours.

what year is the car?if its pre 95 you will probably find it is a non immobilised car which means fitting the K ecu (which is from an A4) will never work without some wizardry inside the ecu.

If its 95> it should be easy to reset it to work using vagcom

easy enough to do with vagcom then

seems the K is used on a4 and cabrios so shouldn't be any issue with it,only thing I have heard is some of the ABC v6 ecus were 145bhp instead of 150.No idea which ones and even if it was a UK thing or not, iirc spain had some

Out of interest what was the original running problems you had that made you go for a new ECU?

The running problems are. Starts, but stops about half a dozen times, hot or cold. Runs lumpy at times. Seems to run rich. Poor fuel economy. exhaust smells. poor tick over sometimes.
Things I have done. Two different sets of fuel injectors . new plugs, and leads. new ignition module etc. Replaced idle control thingy. New thermostate. New FPR. New fuel filter. New cats and exhaust. Replaced Lambda sensors. checked vacuum lines. Cannot read codes. So thought Ecu might be the problem.
The car belongs to my wife, who drives it in top gear all the time. Runs it on cheap petrol, when she dos put petrol in, otherwise it runs on fumes, cant tell her she wont listen.

Ive got 3 X 2.6 V6 engines that were all running before I scrapped the cars. Doesn't sound like you have got much left to change but if you need anything send me a pm

Mmmm ........ Considering how much you have changed and it's still not right I would be considering an issue with the throttle body or ECU
