    Dump Valve??

Not sure if this has been asked before, and there is probably something fundamentally wrong with the idea but...... would I be right in thinking that with a standard S2 recirculation valve, it allows air that has already been throught the turbo, and hence hot, back into the intake system???

Therefore if you were to plug the connection back into the intake and run a pipe from the recirculation valve to the floor would this be a cheap mod to keep intake temperatures down??

By venting this air to atmosphere etc then the ECU will then overfuel the engine as it thinks this vented air is still in the system.

This is why the Dump to Atmosphere valves arent recommended

      Roo,

Air is only recirculated when your throttle is closed during gear changes or deceleration. There would be some heating of the air in the system I guess but it is not significant, only happens under no-power conditions and will not affect your cars ability to generate power. Ant is correct in his comments about vent to atmos as our cars meter the air before the turbine. Tom (Audiman), on the other hand has his MAF between turbo and throttle and has reverted to a vent to atmos valve. He's a chav at heart though! LOL!

BTW if your air is being recirculated around the turbo in your car while boosting, your DV is shot and your turbo will be having a very hard time so will likely have a very reduced life.

Good gearchanges are much less than 0.5 seconds too so that will reduce the transient affects you suggest. Heat transfer during coasting may be an issue but the mass of recirulated air is very small overall. When the DV is recirculating, the turbo is not increeasing the pressure of the air so heating will be considerably reduced...ie main source would be heat transfer from the compressor components themselves I would have thought rather than heating due to compression of air.
