    Oil cooler dimentions

Hi, i want to ask something! Is a mocal oil cooler 300x10 with 13 rows! i think it has 0.26 l capacity!

Is it better than the RS2 oilcooler??

And onother one: is an Intercooler with this dimensions good for how much power? dimensions: 530x310x55 mm and with inlet and outlet at 60mm ! Is this like the stock inlet, outlet?

    Greetings

A larger oil cooler than standard will improve oil cooling. The standard cooler is tiny. Mocal coolers are 115mm and 235mm wide. From the info I have a 0.26litre capacity 13 row cooler is the one with a 235 x 100mm Matrix and they cost £45 here, typically. Are you having oil cooling problems? When do these problems occur? Track or street? ambient combitions? etc My oil gets very hot on track events on hot days with the standard one but on the street it is fine throughout the year. I have a 44row awaiting fitment but I will be placing that in front of the main radiator. Without knowing what problems you are having, how can a solution be offered? If someone says it will be fine, you will be ****** off if it doesn't cure your issues in your climate and application. Fit as big as you can get into the space you have available on your vehicle configuration.

A larger intercooler will be better than standard. As far as quantifying improvements, this is not easily possible from the information given. Intercooler heat transfer depends on your ambient conditions: air temperature and velocity, intercooler finish etc, so an intercooler that sees only a 25degreeC rise in intake charge temp in the Germany in winter in 6th gear doing 300km/h will not give the same characteristics on a car in Spain in Summer on a slow winding track event. Fit the largest intercooler you can, being careful with pressure drops and pay the price with maybe marginally less throttle response at certain points low in the rev range.

Nobody answered your questions because there is no correct answer!!

Is the question "Is an oil cooler with these dimensions better than the stock" not very specific?

Is the question "is an IC with 530x310x55 mm good (means better than stock RS2) and how much bhp +-" not good too? How should i formulate it? I want to know if this IC is good for the air that is needed for about 500 BHP (if i ever get there) in Greece's hot climate!

With oil temps i get problems (115-120 )degrees on track or in curvy mountain roads in Greece!

Mocal has 330x100 mm 13 rows according to them:

        Hope this helps!

I don't think that IC will fit...top port looks unsuitable and it looks too tall so you may have difficulties getting it in. Fitting a larger intercooler to the unmodified car will not give you a power increase unless your standard one is clearly inadequate and you are observing excessive rise of the intake temps. Larger intercooler lets you run higher boost for longer as it can better handle the thermal requirements to keep the temperatures down. It will not give you XXX horsepower and it will not be suitable for up to YYY peak horsepower...the answer is almost impossible.
The Mocal oil cooler you suggest is larger than the stock RS2 one. Remove your front grill from the bumper to reveal the towing eye and you will see the standard oil cooler in there. An enlargement is an improvement. No point in installing a larger one if you are not experiencing oil temperature excursions outside the recomended operating regime of the engine oil. The one you are looking at will not be a direct swap so you will have to look at relocating it somewhere else.

              Hi Billman

If the IC can fit it is better if you ask me.
And the oil cooler is much better.

I think the IC can be fit with the stock RS2 IM!

For the Oilcooler i will need 2 adaptors for the lines!and some work to make it hang in the stock place, or somewhere with better flow!

since this is an old post and i would like some help here are my figures:
Greece, summer, daily temperatures up to 35degC more or less on hot days, sometimes 40 even!
On those does, oil temp rises as soon as i put my foot down for seconds of acceleration more than the 90deg which regularly sits when i drive normally. It then drops if i return to casual driving.
I use castrol RS10W60,i have no oil leaks,i have a small oil consumption which falls within the limits of AUDI manual, but since im having a major service to the car,i was wondering if there is an aftermarket solution for an oilcooler which would be larger than the original one and would be a fairly direct swap using the oil lines and plugs that the OEM oil cooler uses.

The reason is that i would prefer to keep as much as possible the oil cooled rather than starring at the gauge everytime i put my foot down.(and NOT putting my foot down is not an option!!)

                  thanks

You can change to a mocal cooler or similar but you will need to remake/adapt the pipework.

what do you mean remake/adapt?do i need to buy extra parts for plugs etc?or do i need to buy new oil pipes as well?
is there someone who has done this before so that he can tell me excactly what i will need?Im leaving in a week for my army service and wont be online or a civilian for 1 year, however my RS2 will have some major work to be redone on september and thus i thought of having a better oilcooler redone.only im out of time!!!
                      thanks

The audi pipes are not flexible along their entire length and they fix into the side of the oil cooler.
Most aftermarket oil coolers have connections on the top, so you will need to have a custom oil cooler made or get new lines if you want to go bigger.
Your oil cooler could just be full of crap and cleaning it / getting a new one will make a massive difference.

indeed, that is also an option.I will try cleaning it,or replacing it and also try to lay off the gas pedal on hot summer days...

i believe the oil cooling job is one that needs me present on the replacing procedure,so i will leave it for the future..
                          thanks guys!

Mine often goes over 110 deg
I don´t see the problem in your case.

but does it do that on such a short time(seconds of acceleration???)???
