Not on an ABY or AAN as no cam position sensor setup.

G40 Cam Position Sender Shutter Wheel info

No on an AAN or ABY or ABU. What you would want is an adjustable cam sprocket that also has adjustments for the cam shutter wheel on the back of the sprocket.

Stock AAN and ABY sprocket and shutter wheel showing the relationship between the G40 shutter wheel opening and the stock cam timing mark.

Here is one fromTommi's showing how both outer cogged wheel and the inner shutter wheel are adjustable:

Here is the back of Tommi's shutter wheel showing the ends of the machine screws used for the adjustment.

How critical is the G40 camshaft sensor timing to crankshaft timing? I realize that it needs to be within a certain range. Can this value be optimized? Other than using a dual channel oscilloscope & comparing the signals between G40 & G4 crankshaft position sensor, how would one check it?
        TIA, Chris

That's probably the only way. That and an adjustable cam sprocket like that from Tommisbillet.com and a dyno. Sounds like fun.

In the interim, all I can add are these (AAN/ABY vs ADU cam shutters) (remembering that the ADU intake cam is "twisted" 10 degs from the AAN/ABY intake cam positions):

                Thanks for the replies

Maybe I should have mentioned I don't run a g40 cam sensor. So knowing that it should fit then.

I suppose even if the timing mark was in a different position on the vw engine I could put my own on it.

As far as I know the transition to the front of the AAN occurred in mid-Feb 1992 so all the early 1992 S4 AANs had the intake cam-driven "tuna can" dizzy with the G40 inside. If you ever need to replace it you can use the pdf that I created, linked below. In the interim, I am curious about the engine number to add to the data bank of before and after the transition.

NN78290 was probably built in the first week of January 1992 so I would have guessed that it would have had the "tuna can" G40 dizzy. *BUT* I would still like to see the SN of the engine like this:
