    water pump?

changing the cambelt atm on the rs2. should i bother replacing the water pump? it has a proper rs2 item on it atm, and looks like new ones are £300 plus. whereas an s2 pump is only £30 but means changing to s2 belt etc.

if my rs2 wp is working correctly and is good upon inspection should i just keep that?

do they have metal or plastic impellers and are rs2 wp's prone to failure??

    many thanks

Water pump has always been a replacement item on these occasions of belt change because of the trouble you get in labour removing every thing to to it again just to replace that.

I am in the same boat however this time even though I have acquired a proper rs2 water pump i will be having an s2 pump with replacing the front pulley to ensure rs2 one thus keeping the same cambelt and ability of the pump. My current one seems to be working fine at moment and as for the platinum vs metal impeller I would have thought the change to plastic was to avoid rust creation to some extent although I haven't heard of them breaking.

The OE water pumps are very good quality and last well, but worth changing while you're in there
The RS2 and ABY pump is the same, only the pulley is different - so you can reuse your old RS2 pulley on a new ABY pump

        This

RS2 water pump flows quicker due to having less teeth overall, also remember that the timing on RS2 is set about half a tooth or was it one? tooth behind the timing mark on the cam gear.

so how does the pulley change? haven't looked yet, is it interference fit?

would prefer to keep it all rs2 and change pulley if possible.

          cheers

£30 you quoted for an S2 water pump sounds like aftermarket. I just rang audi today for Genuine audi water pump on my AAN S6 and was quoted £89.22. I would go for as Error404 mentioned a good quality audi pump. Ecp couldn't say but can get oem (probably genuine) pump from them at £60. There cheapie was £30.

got a couple of prices from tps trade audi/vw etc. s2 water pump @ £67.66 +vat. 13.72 surcharge.

also when asking about cambelt parts, he quoted for the tensioner unit at £75.68+vat, is this something that should be changed or not?

most things I asked for were NLA, he mentioned audi tradition but I find that site a right pain to use! plus you need part numbers to be able to actually find anything! are there any workshop manuals with diagrams/part numbers that can be found for this car?

You don't need to change the tensioner unit complete, just replace the tensioner wheel it's a bolt on and off part
