    Sump plug

Changed the oil and filter in the Rallyrep today, and spent about 45 mins just trying to release the ANN engine sump plug without destroying it. I know I was doing it on a driveway, which is never easy, but it really did put up a fight. It was soaked in releasing fluid, and had pretty much every spanner attack it. In the end I used a long spanner and some leverage off the sump pan with a wheel brace. I know they can stick, and was being careful not to ruin it, but christ on a bike it was unbelievably tight. Any idea what torque they should be at?

The issue is galvanic corrosion between the pump threads and the sump material. The common solution is this:

If you aren't going to go to a Fumoto T-207, then splurge and get a new threaded plug PN 059103193 and if not that, then for sure get a new sealing washer, PN N 0438541, Items 15 and 16:

Thank you. I changed the washer as a matter of course. I'll check the torque tomorrow and adjust accordingly.

I think that is a crush washer so if you were over 30 Nm, its toast if you back things off and then go again to 30 Nm. Its already over crushed. New washer or anneal that one with a blow torch until it glows. (OFF THE CAR, ON A CONCRETE PAD).

Even if things are good torque-wise, etc. don't be overly surprised at the time of the next oil change when you have issues again. As stated, the problem is often galvanic corrosion between the male plug threads and the female sump threads. Not much you can do about that until you go Fumoto.

Or your other option is to buy a hand pump for oil removal and suck it out through the dipstick. They do them on ebay for about £30. Very lazy was to do it on the drive but stops the issue of messing with the plug.

This is a more expensive one but holds the entire quantity of oil and apparently is self working once started.

Using one of those things is what most enthusiasts in the know can't stand. It's the lazy couldn't care less quick fit way and wrong. Not recommended at all.Great for sucking out gearbox or axle oil though

I seem to remember their very reasonable, less than 20 quid anyway, got one fitted to mine, combined with a suitable length of pipe it save's a load of hassle and mess every oil change.

True. Lazy is the word. Not something I have but I know main dealers use them. Saw a much bigger one being used at bmw other week for service
