Brown trouser moment, keep an eye on your power steering belt

Today I had a real scary moment. Traveling down the A14 to the A12 junction. There where loads of lorry's as usual, so I thought give it a blast and clear them, and brake, Feels like wood tried to swerve to miss the last lorry, steering like it has ceased. It was
Then I realized it was a power steering failure. It takes a second or two for the brain to Kick in, and for you to realize what's wrong. I can tell you that second or two was really
    Scary.
It turned out that the power steering belt had broken. fortunately I was a couple of miles from a motor factor, and they found a compatible belt, which I fitted by the side of the road. Not an easy job without the right tools, and skinny hands , and patients, and pissed of, and with no phone, and ten quid on me, and using language even I don't
Understand. I could go on, but the moral of the story is keep an eye on your belts.
better still carry spares in your boot, because they are getting hard to find. plasters to stop the blood from cut hands. I could go on, but I think you have the picture. why O why didn't I join the AA. Of to the pub now. And I will be walking.

Excellent story, well told and with humour. I will definitely be taking on board you scary experience. I hope it never happens to me and it has just dawned on me that i might consider for the first time in my life to join the AA or RAC. God i must be getting old. Enjoy your well earned drink!!

When I change belts I always leave the old ones in the boot, then I have an emergency spare and one to refer size to
I also put more air in spare tyre than needed on cars that may run different pressure when loaded/empty
Easier let air out than put it in !

Some note worthy tips. Must admit I do that with spare tyre too, havent kept belts in there but might start I think

Better than being completely stuck somewhere and not able get any, but I'd let Rac fit em as don't keep tools n work clothes in the boot too! I used to but it affected power to weight ratio too much
          Lol
