my 3B no compression and "pinking"

    Hi all!

I need some advice if you will be so kind to throw some my way!

My problem started when stopped at lights or stopping to park and the idle started slowly to creep up to 1500 rpm which is when I noticed a loud hissing/sucking coming from behind the throttle body, so I removed the air intake pipes and throttle body and located the problem.it was the pipe that goes from the metal pipe connecting the air box and the manifold...the other end goes down under the dizzy cap and connects on to a mushroom shaped thing under the inlet manifold...Any way I repaired that and started the car....SUCCESS!!....the car started at around 1500 rpm and slowed to under a 1000 rpm which was were it should have been,

I took it for a short journey for less than half mile and did not speed over 30mph and as I turned the corner the car started to miss as if a plug was kaput or a lead failure,
I coasted back in to my parking bay and it cut out..i tried to start the car again and it struggled to start, after pumping the throttle till it started I noticed a pinking noise coming from the engine then the car started to die and it did not respond to the throttle at all.

I called the dianostics out and he pulled a couple of codes when the car was running.
    CODE 001
    01253 injector,cylinder 5 N30 open
    short
    circuit to earth

    CODE 002
    00513 Engine speed sender G28
    NO SINGNAL

Also he said there was no compression in cylinder 3....

Now my worry is this.... I have read what the g28 and g24 does and am aware it would cause the car to run poor and cause starting problems but will it cause the problem with cylinder 3?...

I have been quoted over 500 by a garage as they seem to think it may have dropped a valve or something....

I don't want to spend all that money taking the head off etc only to find out that nothing was wrong with it anyway.

Any help will be greatly appreciated thank folks :~)

I would pull the plugs out of it first and see what they look like, might be something indicative with their colours (eg black sooted plugs). Next step would be to fire in a compression tester and see what you're getting across all cylinders. Hopefully its not a valve issue although I can't think how it would be unless the timing belt's jumped or broken...could also be an idea to remove the belt inspection cover to check it looks ok visually. Good luck and hopefully its nothing serious!

Did the mechanic check the compression properly? If he did and there really is no compression on three then the head will have to come off unfortunately, most likely a valve or seat issue as Tonks says.

The crank sensor fault is most likely nothing to worry about as it will always be there unless it's cleared with the engine running, did you try this?

The injector fault is more than likely the the 2 pin electric connector as opposed to the injector itself, the insulation inside the plug goes brittle and causes poor contacts.

Re your visitor message, I do have spare 3B injectors should you need one but I'd check the connector first.
