    oil pressure concerns

Got my aby back up and running after a full rebuild, and I'm slightly concerned about the oil pressure. I know this topics come up loads of times and I have searched. I'm getting around 1.3 bar at idle, approx 90 deg oil temp, tested and confined with a capillary gauge. Crank was mint, and plastigauged to spec. Oil pump stripped and given a clean bill of health from j.p. standard main bolts. Turbo is gtx3071 with 1mm restrictor in oil feed. Mocal oil cooler with -8 lines. Oil is cheap mineral 15 40 to run it in.

At 2000rpm hot I'm getting around 3.5 bar. As I understand, these figures are within spec. But its really bothering me that I never saw the gauge drop below 2 bar before the rebuild. Any ideas?

Sounds OK to me, wait until you get some decent oil in and see what it does at idle then.

Mineral oil is really thin when hot, I'd not be too concerned unless its the same once you get onto decent synthetic in once the rings are bedded in.

      EDIT: beaten!

Cheers gents. Yea I can only hope some titan pro s will solve the problem. Engine sounds sweet as, its just bothering me that it sits lower than before. Think the best thing is to not worry about it for know and wait till the first oil change

Yep, 15w40 has always given me that sort of readings on my 7A, prefer a nice sticky quality 20w50

You could shim the reliefe valve spring to rise the pressure a bit..

AFAIK that would only increase the maximum oil pressure, I'm already getting over 6 bar from a cold start.

Mine had a approx 1.5 bar on hot idle with semi-synthetic 10/40 now I've swapped to 10/50 Pro S it sit's happily on 2.0 bar.

Like quite a few on here, I've got both of our 20vT's running Castrol 10w60 Edge. Its upped the hot idle pressure and silenced the S2 tappets. With the Rally Car, the type 85 system mated with a modified AAN caused the low oil pressure warning to occasionally sound at hot idle.... Edge has stopped that....

Don't forget guys he is running the engine in on mineral, so any comparison to fully synth is not relevant
