I know mine is not shagged. She is in rude health etc and after a recent thrash against an 8l s3 proved she is still capable.
Im may try to get a chipped ecu to swap out for a quick comparison.
I recall my mate having an aby avant years back i remember it was quick but not like jims avant.
Sorry for the slight thread highjack but, if I were looking to chip my stock ABY for the time being before I start with proper engine mods. Who has done what and who should I talk to?
There are a couple of popular forum mappers, do a search. The homefry chip from s2central.net was awesome on my aby probably best chip I had on the stock turbo. no idea if they are still going
I have never thought of my 3b as being slow. Ok i accept its not going to keep up with lighter modern cars but she holds her own.
Recently i sold an aby avant to forum member humanjoist. Over the last couple of days i have driven it a few times. I have noticed the following differences.
Aby.
Feels quicker to rev up in neutral.
Less vibration on idle.
The main difference is at 3k the revs just fly up and it pulls like mad.
3b.
Bit more lumpy at idle, it feels a little more raw , less refined i guess.
Pulls well and picks up well but seemingly nowhere as savage as the aby.
Has anyone any experience of the two in standard form.
Its possible the aby has been chipped but the difference in acceleration seems huge to me.
Interesting.
You'd expect the SM FW in the 3B to make it feel quicker to rev than the ABY, but the DM FW in the ABY is why it will feel less vibration.
The SM FW is also why the 3B might feel lumpy and what makes it feel raw.
The ABY has more poke and refinement for sure, and if it's been mapped that would be even more pronounced but it does seem strange you say the ABY is quicker to rev up vs the 3B.
