  • RS2 no Boost HELP PLEASE

    Hi Guys

My RS2 will not boost more than 0.9bars.
The car was running fine and we then changed the following:
    Cam Belt and V Belts
Cam Timing (according to the Mechanic it seemed to be one tooth out)
    New Dump Valve
    New Samcos
    New Plugs.

The car now has a very slight miss at about 2500rpm and then boosts to only 0.9bars. I also need to swing the engine a fewtimes before it starts.
Removed the WGFV and replaced it with a mechanical device and the car will hold 1.5bar boost or whatever I set the mechanical Valve to.
Gandalf cleared the faults but this one persists.

    Cleared.

    1. Double check the camshaft timing.

    2. Double check that the TBV is fitted correct way round

    3. Suspect you might have intermittent fault on CMP (G40) - its the one nehind the camshaft sprocket.

    4. Did you fit correct spark plugs ?

    5. SUre you have no air leaks ?

    6. Done output tests with VAG-COM ?

    7. Might be worth changing WGFV, but if car was absolutely fine before this work, then you *really* must examine what has gone wrong during the latest work...

Check that the engine timing is set according to the flywheel mark, not the front crank pulley!
If the timig is correct this is probably Hall-related.

As Paul said, try the output tests. Listen if the ISV clicks.

        Thanks Paul and Porkkis
        1. Double check the camshaft timing.
        Will do

        2. Double check that the TBV is fitted correct way round
Is the TBV the Dump Valve, then yes I have checked its the right way.

        3. Suspect you might have intermittent fault on CMP (G40) - its the one nehind the camshaft sprocket.
        Hope not, more damn expense...

        4. Did you fit correct spark plugs ?
        Yep

        5. SUre you have no air leaks ?
        No air leaks.

        6. Done output tests with VAG-COM ?
Gandalf, can you help with this.

        7. Might be worth changing WGFV, but if car was absolutely fine before this work, then you *really* must examine what has gone wrong during the latest work...
Tried the WGFV on a another S2 and it was Fine.

Porkkis, sorry for my ignorrance, what is the ISV?

        Thanks again Guys

Idle stabisation valve. Sits behind the engine next to throttle body. This allows engine management to increase idle etc. It just came into my mind as you said the car won't start right away. Once seen a 200-20v with blown/no fuse at all for ISV, WGFV and Carbon canister solenoid. It didn't start very well...

RS2 has probably quite a different wiring and you would also have wgfv and cc fault codes.. Better to check the engine fuses anyway. At least it's cheap

Ahhh yes - check the fuses - blow the wrong one and you have no WGFV !

@mastermind - I can do the output tests - no problem! I doubt it would achieve anything as there was no difference when you used my new WGFV (and I could hear yors clicking). My guess is some problem with the Hall Sensor or cam timing.

                Thanks Paul.
Didnt know about this. Which fuse would affect the WGFV?
