Got a new sensor, and it's still not running right. Sometimes it starts sometimes ir doesn't. I got it upto temperature, so good 10 minutes, all good, then
.. will trh to start again and it won't start. Could it be that the flywheel is rusty at some places and it won't pick up the signal? But then again, mate of mine used vagcom to read live data, and sensor was picking up the revs. And when it doesn't run, error for g28 comes up.

You always get that error when the engine is not running.
Sounds like the hall sensor is playing up. Have you read the thread I linked to above?

Reasons why your AAN/ABY/ADU won't start.

Will definitely check that out, but I yesterday at one point car was running, and she just died on me, so I assume it can't be the starter motor?

Do you know, is there any way of checking cam sensor before getting a new unit? Bosch costs ÂŁ100, VDO doesn't offer one, and I found an OE number on quattroworld.com but nothing came up for that either.

            Thanks

There is all the G40 info you will ever need to know on part numbers, how/why it works, testing it for function and buying and replacing it inside my "G40" post, accessed through various ways (e.g. Advanced Search here with "Any Date" selected) including by clicking on the "G40" label in the live version of my Engine Bay Devic map:

Thanks a lot. It a relief that only sensor itself can be changed which works out much cheaper.

Is the crank pulley keyway intact? has the pulley been replaced at some stage during the vehicles past and not torqued back up correctly...

Haven't had a look at that. I have car for couple of month only, so as far as I know there is no record of that being replaced. I found a cam sensor in my spare part box, I will try to fit that next week and see if that fixes it, at the same time will check the crank pulley.

                    Thanks

There are not codes, then it would be pretty straight forward.

...but it's not. I am quite certain it's the cam sensor after reading on here about the symptoms.
