The temp gauge in my s2 is reading close to 90c from startup, infact all i need to do is turn ignition on and it starts to creep up, just wondering if anyone has experienced this one before, car has not been started for about 2 months

Its the MFTS in the water rail that provides the signal for the temp gauge. Sounds like it could be faulty. Check the pins at the wiring connector first though.

Be wary if you get a new 3 pin replacement. It will read 10 - 20 degrees too high. It is well documented on here.

Umm....Really? Never heard of that. Several years ago, I replaced my AAN's 4 Pin with a 3 Pin and the gauge readings have always matched the ones from the Autoclimate control. Still comes up to temp at 89 C (ish)(not higher than 90 C, based on an 87 C OE thermostat).

F76 MFTS info including how to check the coolant temp through the Autoclimate control:

Its more to do with the brand that the number of pins. I think the Meile MFTS reads high. Behr should be fine.

So, the only option is replace? I had one replaced and from the first warmup dash showed +110C instead of +90C. Lol.

If you need one go genuine only. Ring Pete at Quattro corner. 0121 476 0034. The genuine ones are normally ÂŁ100 however I got 2 from him last week for ÂŁ45 each as he has come by some cheap. Think postage is about ÂŁ5 next day. Good service too

As said, the Meyle ones are not recommended as they read high.

You can measure resistance between T pin and sender body to get an idea of what you'll get on your gauge.

I fitted a JP group sender which reads bang on 90 degrees on a warm engine (resistance was roughly 1100 ohms). The Meyle sender only measured ~900 ohms

Mine was from Pete at quattrocorner and genuine as far as I am aware. Perhaps I will try and measure the resistance when I get a spare half hour. Interesting.....
