    oil leak from front seal

Ive just had the AAN running in the S1E2 project of mine and the front seal is leaking but not at idle,Only seems to do it with a few revs on board??
its got a high volume oil pump from 034 on it and iam hoping its not a pump problem
Its making good oil pressure. I was thinking maybe breathers ?? It has the big breather in the block going through a 1/2 inch pipe to a catch can and seems to be working well
Maybe oil pump is leaking a bit of pressure against the back of the seal ??
    any thoughts
    thanks

Although as with most 034 stuff, the pump probably doesn't fit or has something wrong with it too

Ha ha such mis trust. What's wrong with the oe pump they seem pretty bomb proof On the 5 cylinders.
You would hope with something as crucial as an oil pump they would design it right or risk lots of expensive warranty claims

yes ive had issues with some 034 stuff, latest one is the quick rack that i bought is not assembled properly , fired the car up and it when to full left lock all on its own, nearly broke my wrist
put old rack in no problem at all
hope your right about seal cause if its the pump then my rally is over before it starts.
dyno day is wednesday ,ill get a new seal in before then and hope for the best
          thanks

if it's a breather problem than likely the rear seal leaks also
maybe you can disconnect the big hose(1/2 pipe) on the catch can and let it hang in open air and see if this solved your problem
you can also measure the max oil pressure
my origional new AAN oilpump gives almost 8 bar on cold temp without problems or leaks

yes we did check the breathers and all seemed well, i think iam stressing to much hopefully its just a seal
does anyone know the dimensions of the front seal on a AAN , are they the same on all the 5 clys??
              thanks

Why do you need 8 bar? Am I missing something surely this is why pumps have a pressure relief valve? I ask this as a genine ququestion.
on my 2 golfs we used to fit the higher volume pump from a mk3 to accommodate the piston oil squirted things but it kept the pressure the same

You will probably find it's a rubbish front seal, new pumps seem to come with some cheap plastic lipped seal. I always take them out and fit a rubber lipped seal.

Oil pressure won't cause this problem, crankcase pressure will but you won't get much of that without boost and from what you describe it's not seen boost yet.

The big breather going down to a half inch pipe won't cope with boost. It won't shift enough volume and you will get crankcase pressure causing leaks.

                  Hope it helps

                  Darren.

Sounds like what happens if you accidentally fitted the RS2 banjo with a check valve in the fluid return line from the rack - BTDT

i think i fitted new bango bolts ,so dont think they have valves ? I used the same banjos with the spare rack and it was all good but i will check

Match the size of the exit holes from the engine all the way to atmosphere, if it passes through a separator make sure the vents from that also match the exit holes from the engine, any smaller and it will create a restriction. You will be amazed how much pressure you get in the crankcase when on boost.

I have seen them blow the dipstick out like a bullet.

                          Cheers

@ Monkeymagic: i dont mean that he needs 8 bar, mine just gives almost 8 bar a minute or so with cold(rebuild) engine,it's a new pump and have the origional pressure relief valve with a 3mm washer.
a s2 oilpressure gauge goes maximum to 5 bar so you dont know what actually the max pressure is from the car
