    Very Mucky -

On advice I have just changed my 9 year old PCV/Pressure Regulating Valve (034 129 101 B) and Flame Trap/Deflector (035 103 477A) for new ones and was amazed at how they were totally clogged up with oily gunge. (see pics of new and old Flame Trap)

Havn't yet driven the car to see if it has made any difference.

Can't be doing the car any good. Is there an "easy" way of cleaning out the gunge from the breather system?

No! Its a messy job, best way is to let them soak in Gunk or similiar for a while and then wash out.

You know where that black plastic valve thing is on the block for the breather??
Well that flame trap is inside the hose that leaves that valve.

Yup, thats where it was on mine, shoved quite far done the metal pipe (6a rather than 4 - see EKTA screen shot above) near the bend. It was bit fiddly to get a good grip with long nose plyers, but not exactly difficult.

If the vlave has gone faulty then it can, but normally under boost. The parts arent expensive, try it

I cleaned mine in warm soapy water with a little vodka, did the trick and it looked good as new!

At some point i want to take all the PCV pipes off and wash them out.

I saw immediate gains in that the car revs and accelerates alot more freely. It's very noticable in stop start traffic that i do.

I keep shaking my head in that i've had the car for 2 years and i wish i'd dont it sooner.

There is now a list of things including this that you should consider doing with the S2/RS2 when you get one.
Given the amount of time you spend on here how about producing a list for a 'sticky'.
that way the same questions we have all asked at various times will be answered.

fuel filter, DV, N75/WGFV, PCV etc etc
