I have had 2 cooling fans die on me on my 3B and the second and current was brand new from audi about 3-4 years ago. So wont be buying another one from audi if its only going to last a couple years . To keep you car cool change the wires around in the plug on the switch in the radiator so the fast speed comes in first .
never set your expectations to high that way you are never disapointed

Corrections to the S2 after-run pump and fan schematic

For some reason I had labeled the J69 (214) after-run fan relay "204" and talked about it in my previous post as a "204" when in fact it has always been a "214" (grey) relay. I have now corrected those errors. In doing so, I added some additional info to the combined wiring diagram, posted to the previous post and shown below. Sorry for any confusion that the "204" might have caused while tracking down this fan issue.

It's most likely been goosed for years and the only reason I've noticed as the temp gauge is now accurste.
A new fan from vag is over 300 sheets. A pattern part is 49 delivered but I'll have to change the plug.
I'll probably stock pile old ones.

I have removed the rad tonight and rigged the motor direct to 12 v. On low speed terminals, nowt. I guess that's conclusive then. The good news is I was able to clean all the crud off with the rad out.
But better than that the main oil breather that reaches from the block round to the head has a huge split.
I'm surprised I haven't had boost cut, however I have ordered a new set from Roose. I will hopefully get a little more boost after and it will all look neat.

Is the pattern part same power and size as the OEM unit?

Well I got a new fan from febi ÂŁ71.40.
I changed the plug which was 8 quid from vw. I have plugged the new one in tonight I have a fully functioning fan on low/high speed and on the after run system.
The relevant part numbers are below.
Fan and motor 350/250 watt febi part 06992
                Connecting plug 1h0 906 233.

                    EPS 1.850.629 pin order.png

Related to after run water cooling, there is also a possibility to have the radiator fan starting few degrees lower.
Instead of using Behr or similar original switch you could try Italian EPS 22x1,5mm thermoswitch.
(Connector plug needs to be changed to 3 pin "bosch motronic plug")
                    - EPS 1.850.629 92-87, 97-92

                    - pin order 1.850.629 attached picture
                    - EPS 1.850.617 91-86, 99-94
                    - EPS 1.850.701 91-80, 97-87

VAG Original thermo switch in 3b 200, S2 3b, ABY, RS2 ADU has:
1st (low) speed fan turn on for AC cooling
2nd speed (high 1) fan turn on temp at ~95C and turn off at ~84C

3rd speed (high 2) fan turn on temp at ~102C and turn off at ~91C

Stock afterrun pum/fan swith activates at 110C
These old good ones activate at lower temp:
                    FAE 35470 (105C, 95C )

                    FAE 35810 (100C, 95C )
3rd alternative Transporter switch activates too low.

Thanks for that, I may order one as I prefer the extra security of the lower fan cut in temperature. I tend to use (the now redundant) a/c switch in my car to trigger my fan to run early if sat in traffic too as a precaution.

Thanks for the tip Tommy, this seems like a easy and nice mod to do.
