    aan engine. route to 500bhp?

I have a rebuilt aan engine. I will be fitting h beam rods.
Any other engine work to consider if going for 450/500hp

Likely run on standalone. Obviuosly do 3inch exhaust and intercooler pipework etc. Turbo will be gtx3076r

what other things will I need to source to run this sort of power level.

    Injector size?

I will run tubular manifold and custom inlet manifold.

Not familiar with these engines really so just after the info for tuning these engines to around the 500hp mark.

    Many thanks

A Bosch 044 fuel pump relayed and somewhat big injectors, I run Bosch EV14 750cc on 450ish hp and they are nowhere close to being maxed out. I bought them if going bigger turbo on gasoline, but that will probably happen on E85 and then the 750s will be a bit on the smaller side.
ARP head studs is recommended. And of course new gaskets and seals where needed.

I will be running a fuel cell. Will I require a lift pump before the bosch 044? Will run a swirl pot as well.

      Thanks

Am not experienced with lift pumps and fuel cells, but don't think you need one here - the Bosch 044 pump is man enough for 500bhp. For belt and braces you should probably run two and make sure you have oversized fuel lines too. There is a thread on here about right pipe size for 650bhp - I cannot remember all the figures but you should base it on approx 55lbs air per min and divide that by 10 (plenty of margin for mixture) for approx 5.5lbs of fuel per minute at full chat --- work from that with density of chosen fuel and you get flow rate in litres per min or whatever units you like.

i have a rebuild AAN engine around 500hp in a b2 coupe quattro
i use a bosch 044 pump and siemens deka 630cc injectors on 4bar fuelpressure with the origional fuellines under the car,i think 8mm thick?
          turbo is a gt3076r
i also recommend headstuds from arp, rebuild crankcase ventilation and baffles in the sump
my head and cams are still origional

Do people use an adjustable fuel pressure reg with these pumps?

Cheers for the advice so far

i use a adjustable fuel pressure reg on my engine but a AAN reg (think 3.8bar)will do the job if your injectors are big enough

As ever, just speak to whoever you get to map it and see what they recommend for injectors.

As for the engine, it seems that 450bhp is achievable with most of the bolt-on bits being pretty much stock but 500 requires higher quality bits. There was a recent thread with someone running the GTX3076.

Expect to be looking at head work, cam timing, reverse inlet, decent intercooler and maybe water injection to get 500 on that turbo, from what I have seen on here.

doesn't necessarily have to be 500bhp, tbh just after as much as possible without going mental on costs. the car the engine is going into will be very light anyway hopefully under 1 tonne.

whats meant by reverse inlet? I will most likely be fabricating a custom inlet with front inlet anyway.

                  many thanks

If it's not going in an S2, then the inlet manifold statement isn't valid. Basically, the S2 inlet manifold goes around the back of the engine and then over the exhaust manifold (!), meaning that it's quite a lot longer than required and less efficient thermally as well as through pipe friction etc. losses. With a reverse inlet, the inlet takes the air straight out of the intercooler and in to the engine.

If you've got space for a decent exhaust manifold and inlet, then a lot of the S2 rules won't really apply, so you'll be fine. Look at water injection and dropping the compression ratio to 8:1 by skimming the pistons or getting bigger ones.

Head work wise, get multi angle valve seats and the exhaust ports polished a bit, as well as getting it port matched.

You'll want a light flywheel and clutch, so get that balanced with the rest of the internals and obviously, new rods are required but not new pistons.

One other thing is to get a decent oil breather setup on ther; often overlooked but very important.

ok I see what you mean, I have an RS2 as well and like you say the inlet goes to the back of the engine. I can fabricate an inlet manifold that has a front entry inlet which will mean a very short intercooler pipe to inlet.

what is the benefit of lowering compression ratio? I would prefer to keep it as is tbh as the engine has only recently been built.

is headwork really required to get 450/500hp?

already got single mass lightweight flywheel and tilton paddle clutch (twin plate)

will address breather setup, that's no problem

                      many thanks

No. On my car a little porting is done to a otherwise bog standard 3B head. Taking down the step in the exhaust ports. You'll see what I mean when looking at a port. I run 7A camshafts, but on earlier map the car had AAN camshafts and it also worked well. I can't comment the difference as other aspects has been changed too.

I dont mind doing mild port shaping to match manifolds etc as head will be coming off anyway to install arp studs.

                          Head gasket to use? Std?

Yes, standard multi layer steel gasket, as per RS2 standard. The old style ones can't be found anymore either. Victor-Reinz is the OE manufacturer I suppose, atleast they do a full kit for the cylinderhead with all gaskets and seals needed for all 20V applications.

Do people use the stock wastegate with these larger turbos? Or change for aftermarket?
