I have just converted my BLB engined audi b7 a4 from a chain driven oil pump and balance shaft to the geared version due to excessive chain and gear wear.
The conversion has been relatively straight forward.
However someone suggested that the conversion requires a deeper sump to clear the oil pick up and dipstick guide. That's said I had never read/ heard that before
I personally cannot see any size difference between the two.
However I put a bore scope in the oil level sensor hole today. The oil pump pick up is sat about 5-6 mm from the bottom of the sump. The strainer gauze is sat about 1 cm above the sump. I would think this is a perfect air gap, although I can't find any info.
Does anyone have a view or knowledge of an optimum air gap between base of sump and pick up.
