  • DO NOT use Febi expansion tanks

    Here is why:

Mine had swollen up like a tomato after just 800 miles use.
Stress cracks had started to appear on the side and looked close to bursting.
I wondered if it was a manufacturing defect, but actually its just a cheap crap imitation of the real deal.

800 mile old Febi junk on the left, new OEM on the right:

    Inside OEM:

Inside the Febi piece of ****:
No internal strength at all due to only partial baffles. Check out how swollen it is.

The hose stub on the bottom:
Oem has a stainless insert and much better hose bead moulding.

The level sensor plug lugs are too small so the connector does not clip on properly and falls off:

    Febi crap:

    OEM:

Do yourself a favour and spend the extra £15 on an OEM one. I wish I had first time round

I bought an Audi item from TPS 24 months ago and it split at ADI last year. The replacement is still going strong, but i replaced the cap at the same time.

Have a Febi on mine, for 5K now, and no problems, granted I am sure it is not as nice as an OE one

7A/3B is different design to the ABY one, so maybe they are OK

At work we have stopped using Febi products due to their lack of quality. Eat a couple of tow bills & work for free to repair customer satisfaction will sour you on crap products like Febi. The URQ stuff is no better.

Just out of interest, did the low lever sensor on the Febi actually work ?

Got one on my car and I'm not convinced the sensor works. Even with a low level I get no warnings

Here is a link to a post I did on the OE style expansion/overflow/reservoir tank on an UrS4. It might help you.

This was a rare drop in OCD standards for you Alex, especially given the OEM tank is not crazy expensive (which in itself is a rarity)

Good job you caught it now before it went pop, that is the main thing.

                        Indeed. Fail!

Mike, not sure if the switch worked or not, I never ran it low on coolant. It didn't set off a false warning though.
I will not be buying Febi products again.

They are best avoided for sure.
