    turbo upgrade dilemma.

recently someone asked me if i want to sell the GT2871RS.i have had this turbo
on AAN since 2008 and been happy with the spool also some extra top end.
i just had turbo rebuild last week with new bearing plus bronze cage carrier instead of phenolic resin cage bearing, extended tips billet wheel from Kinugawa.
now speaking about the Holset,i'm looking a HX35 super since mainly the car
is for a DD.I dont want HX40 since i didnt have the highway like Autobahn.
The problem is i have a k26 wagner exhaust manifold which means it's not compatible
with T3 flange on HX35.the reason i'm looking to get the Holset is once it comes to the time, the cost of rebuilding cost a fortune whilst the journal bearing turbo
is much cheaper and can be done myself.i dont need to pay a hundred quids
for VSR balanced like a ball bearing turbo so in case if i decided to go with Holset,
what is the best solution dealing with the exhaust manifold?how much for a custom
tubular manifold?the reason i'm considering the new GTX series from Garrett is there're
k26 turbine housing available and i dont need to be messing with the exhaust manifold
and downpipe, oil and coolant line.all i need to do is bolt right up since my downpipe
has a flex pipe so it can be moving outward to fit the larger garrett turbo.

If you look on the Project Pad, somebody over there machined a k26 #6 hotside to fit the hx35. You can also try to find a #8 hotside for better flow with the Holset ( KKK and holset both measure cm2 instead of A/R, so #6, #8 = 6 cm2 and 8 cm2, compared with the 12cm2 or even 16 cm2 hx35 housing) Here is the thread that mentions the hybrid. Get a hold of 85oceanic for details on what had to be machined. here is the thread:

to clarify, he used an H1C, which precedes the HX35, but has the same center housing, IIRC.

Can you go GTX3071 with a k26 flanged hotside? If you've got on well with Garrett BB turbo, then this would be a decent upgrade in power.

I'd say wait for Hank to release the billet k24. Drop in solution, purported to "make the RS2 [turbo] obsolete."
