    Radiator Options ABY

O.K i've just been told my radiator is scrap and can't be repaired.

The company has offered me a brand new aftermarket one (not to keen) for £120 all in.

What options do i have folks.

    1) Brand new ABY Rad
    2) Alloy Rad
    3) Decent Aftermarket make
Have to say you guys have been great in my hour of need , amazing that this has happened prior to the garage meet!

I have a Dialynx Aluminium Radiator which is good enough to take out the aux radiator. I live in South Africa and if it works here (lap after lap on a race track @ 35 Celcius) it should be great in the UK! You have to check on pricing of the options before making a decision, but I a agree the Nissen will be my last choice.

BTW what is wrong with your radiator? Is it the plastic top? A friend had the same problem with his ABY radiator and a Radiator Shop (They make Racing Radiatiors and Intercoolers) made a new top from aluminium. Works a charm!

I had to replace the main radiator on my ABY recently due to the plastic top cracking around the bleed screw. I got one from Euro car parts ( with metal ends ) for £117, looks better quality than the original and no problems with it so far.

Whats the difference between the ABY and 3B rad?

Mate at GSF says they only do the part number 3B rad

Jamo - I have had 2 different types of rad from Euro Car Parts. They are Nissen rads. They also told me they only did 3B - but these are the correct ones. If you have got rid of your Aux Rad then you can get another radiator from Euro for a non turbo 5 pot - not sure of the exact model it is off. But this one does not have the aux connection on the top of the rad. BTW - I had one of the nissens in the car for a few years - then the bottom mount split and it leaked. The replacement one leaked after 2 weeks. They do have a 1 year warranty - keep your receipt!!

IIRC, I paid £109 for them.

If you do end up with a nissen - you have to retap all the threads - or the captive nuts break off real easy. Do not bend or force the rad when a mount is bolted up - as this will split the mounts. It is a pita to all the bolts - best to take your time and not force anything.

Ask Sal if he has a genuine one for sale.

There was a group buy that was trying to be organised - you could use metalweld to seal as a temporary fix and push the group buy through? Dialynx sell some big ally ones - not sure on cost though.

Get a new bottom rubber mount ordered asap. I think you need a couple(maybe 1) of rubber mounts for the side as well. Replace them.

Cheers Doug, this one isn't a Nissen rad now, think it's called Behr, it looks like the original rad, what do you think?

I have no experience of that one Jamo. It looks like it has all the required hoses in the right places from what I can tell in the pics. Worth trying that over the Nissen one anyway.

At £92 (with discount) it's worth a punt!

For anybody buying a Rad from GSF it's Behr Number 2108408 (Nissen is 60442)

My concerns have been relieved, Behr radiators are OE in Mercedes!

My RS2 has a behr too! I think Behr is the OE for the S2' s but mine has a crack on the relief srew on the top of it! I have traced one with metal ends from germany, dont know the manufacturer!
