    Reeks of gas on idle?

My S2 ABY Avant is really smelly on idle when it's cold. It's also not quite responding when I blip the throttle. It's only when it's cold but it's even worse when it's cold outside, like -5 degrees celsius and colder. Soon as it gets rollin' there is no problem but when on idle. Feels like it's kinda thirsty too. I've seen some discussions about this kind of behaviour but rather than cutting in on one of them I( thought I'd start a new thread.

Henka, clearly your car is running rich. This is nice and safe but bad for performance and fuel consumption! I would think that the main culprits here would be a dodgy lambda sensor, a boost leak or possibly a bad MAF. If your lambda sensor hasn't been replaced in the last 40 to 60,000 km - do so! Do a boost leak test. Lastly, clean the MAF. Most likely, a combination of the above Have you checked for fault codes?

Hate to say it but have you checked fuel lines for leaks, seen this twice recently on two seperate avants (One RS2) The fuel line rots where it goes behind the heatshield by the downpipe. This sometimes has a fibre mat backing that traps moisture and if the roads are wet it is difficult to notice a leak. But you do smell it!!
