    timing belt tension?

Guys I fired up the Quattro tonight after doing the cambelt. I have the faintest chirping sound coming from one of the belts. I reckon it's nothing maybe the pas pump but I'm a little concerned I have over tightened the cambelt/water pump. I diAnt give it Much and could turn the belt 90 degrees between cam and wp. It may be I'm worrying about nowt.
Any views.? I've done 100s of belts but most have Auto tensioners.

Sure it's fine, I found It sounds like a super charger if you over tighten it, BTDT with my old fwd 20v coupe.
Once you've seen the vids of belt flap on the 20vt you will do it tighter than the factory manual suggests

I over tightened my old golf as a kid it sounded like a g60!
My old belt was so loose I could take it Off and put it back by hand. There is no "flap" in the belt. The pproblem is once the front panel comes from spray shop it hinders access.
I think I'll leave it and monitor. Everything looks shiny if nowt else;-)

If it feels tight at 90deg twist and doesn't whine I'm sure it's perfect. About the belt flap, You wait till you see a vid of the belt on a high rpm gear change, it is scary!
I'll try and find a link..

I found after you tension the belt and rotate 360 back to TDC, if you then turn the crank counter clockwise about 10 degrees the belt will go all floppy on the tensioner side, re adjust the tension and it will be perfect then. I discovered this trying to cure the dizzy rattle on my 7A, without doing so that bit of slack allows the cams to oscillate at low RPMS causing the distributor rattle, and as with the above video you will see the belt flap around even at idle.

Well she's all done with the exception of the lights. I reckon I'm 500 quid lighter after replacing aux rad and every bolt along the way.
that said I have peace of mind a billet crank pulley and after having the slam panel re sprayed its all looking rather pretty.

My water pump has started leaking on my newly purchased S6 I thought whilst im in there I might as well do the cambelt and associated parts. Done a bit of research today, the cambelt from Audi is NLA so what belt did you use? gates?
