strange hesitation and crap idle (7A)

i've got 2 problems with my coupe, hoping you guys can help with the diagnosis:

firstly, when cruising at a steady speed, i'll suddenly lose all power, if i were to dip the clutch, it will go pretty much back to idle....but my right foot will not have budged (ie, throttle hasn't closed). if i let off the gas, power returns and all is well. it's kinda like the engine hits a reset button or something....

the other issue is that my idle is all over the place. sometimes it will be just fine. other times (most of the time) the idle starts fine then will start bouncing like mad. usually it doesn't stall but 1 in 20 times it does. again, playing with the throttle will cure the problem, if only momentarily. i don't think it's a vacuum leak because otherwise the idle would bounce all the time right?

i'm beginning to lean towards a bum TPS. why? because playing with the throttle (quick jabs for both cases) seems to temporarily fix things. does that seem reasonable to you guys?

how would i test it? or should i just grab the one from my spare motor and toss it in there and see of that cures the ills?

    thanks for your help!

yep, i've done all the stuff they suggest for other problems, and the car worked beautifully in the fall, but this is a recent occurance and doesn't seem to fit any of the symptoms i've seen on the site.

TPS could be tested by using a multimeter and seeing if you have a poor connection on the track. If you can clean it using a switch cleaner from radio shack or similar. Try the spare and see if that works.
