    Rods don't fit, advice please

    Hi all,

I thought I'd get some progress made today and get cracking with building my engine up. 2.8 24v vr6 to go into my CQ.

I have came to fitting the rods, I got the first piston and rod assembled then bam, the rod doesn't fit into the cylinder bore. I am 99.999% I am not being a biff here.

A bit of background here though, I ordered a load of parts, part of which was rods in SEPTEMBER from 034, the box finally turned up this week, it was waiting on the rods as they had ordered 3.2 scat rods instead of 2.8 that I need. After some back and forth emailing the order was changed to euro spec 2.8 rods which I have now just found don't fit.

My annoyance is that the order took 2 months from ordering to delivery because of the rods issue and now I'm still no further forwards.

I am going to complain to 034 but as they don't open for 3 hours I thought I should seek advice on here on how to proceed. (And have a moan as it will make me feel better)

    Thanks very much

So you mean the crank doesn't turn around, the rods hit the block? Maybe you just need to grind off some material to make them fit..?

I mean fitting the rods with the crank installed, I'm sure they would fit from the bottom but surely they are ment to fit from the top the same as how I removed the oem piston and rod?

      Cheers for the reply

Ok, the rod big end doesn't go through the bore..? The pistons would not go in from the underside, so that's not an option. I don't see any other option than removing material from the rods.

034 seems to have these kind of issues quite a lot.

It only seems to be the corners that are catching so I'll have a word with a guy who works at an engineering place and see if he can help out.

But I am still annoyed that after waiting 2 months for the "correct" rods they don't fit!

                id be peed too.

never had an issue with scats. not any experience with 6 pot though either.

                i had mine weighnt matched.

out of interest are they designed for a bored block?

looks like a classic yank product to me.

These are eurospec rods as there was going to be an even longer wait for the scat ones.

I have checked the part number on the box and it says it's for 2.8 on the website. It does seem as though there is only like .5 mm or so in it though

                    thats what i thought.

looks like a .5 bore would clear.

feel sorry for you buddy. 034 are hard work at best of times. i use Paul at boostfactory in the states. he's sorted me on a few occasions with no hassle and fast

                      Classic 034 - doesn't ****ing fit
Clearly they have never tested their product so alarm bells should be ringing pretty loud.
Sad fact is they've had your money now, so good luck getting any sort of dialogue with them. I'm sure you can get them machined but of course more cost and you shouldn't have to.

                        Yep that's what I'm thinking,

Although, its euro specs fault, 034 simply order them in and ship them out but still .....

Sure, there is a difference between fault & responsibility
Its not their fault they don't fit, it is their responsibility to make sure their products are fit for purpose.

If you grind off material for the rod to fit it will change the balance weight of the rod. Call 034 & ask WTF.

Couldn't agree more, a company like that has responsibility to ensure their product's are fit for purpose, ie will actually fit.

I know you shouldn't have to but I'd look at getting them machined to clear as well as balanced all in one hit.

                              I'd also give 034 a serious earful!
