    Miss-Fire on 3B

My Coupe has been stood in the garage for a few weeks i decided to use it for the 30 mile trip to work tonight on 7 or 8 times she decided to run really rough for 10 seconds and would then clear. I was getting it in every gear and even at tidle on occasion.
Im going to start with new plugs, as i know the leads and dizzy cap/rotor are in as new condition.
Anyone got any other ideas? I haven't had time to pull any codes as yet. When it was missing it was making the whole car shake and obviously holding back then it would clear as soon as it came on.

Check the condition of the plugs on each injector, the pink insulation goes brittle and breaks down causing poor connections and random misfires, feels much the same as a weak ignition fault.

Will do bud cheers. All plugs look to be spot on from the top side but ill take them off and check. I take it you get tracking between the two wires if its breaking down. My other thought is MAF connector although that is in top condition.

Yeah you need to pop them off and closely inspect the pinky coloured plastic in the centre that the wires locate into, mine were literally falling apart. I think AndyP has some spare plugs as he had the same problem some time ago, he offered them to me but I found some good ones in my box of used VAG connectors.

I made a little file out of a lolly stick and some worn out 1400 wet and dry the other day after reading Johns post about the faulty MAF connectors. Soaked it in contact cleaner and gave them a little clean before spraying inside both female and male sides (I just could not get the pins out individually, need a better tool for that) Anyhow, the result is unbelievable. Previous "wiggling" had sorted out my misfire/boost cut issues but this makes the whole thing run perfectly from cold to hot.

Might be worth a try as it is easy.

I'll take a look tomorrow once I have finished work. It drove home perfectly this morning! I suspect she is objecting at being stood in the garage. Ha ha

Just been out for a 70 mile blast in mine. These engines love the cold. It was flying. Hope a quick MAF connector clean sorts you out.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the drive to work tonight, the car feels more responsive in the cold, cold air/more dense etc.
