    Urs4 auto tuning

Hi does anyone know how robust the auto box is on a ur s4.
I really like the idea of the auto box but also want to explore the tuning potential of the five pot.

This has been discussed before. Your best answer will come from Popdemonic in Thailand who eventually decided to swap in a manual transmission, etc. because the autobox was limiting his power "needs". From what I remember, the max was stock turbo and injectors with a 3 Bar MAP sensor and a new chip set, i.e. around 280 crank hp. Going higher was going to result in early autobox failure. As it happens, 280 crank hp was the same as the ABH V8 which used an automatic from same ZF 4spd autobox family.

When you say tuning potential do you mean a mega build, or just a chip tune?

If chip tune then prj does a TCU upgrade to increase oil pressure.

Recently someone just put Chinese 3076 turbo with the unknown manual remapped ecu box from europe.
the only upgrade on that car is the Reps RS2'd injectors running on E85.besides,the 'EM etc is all stock.I doubt
the engine and transmission will be last over 6months.
I have had my car chipped with the MRC s/w with 3.0Bar Vmap iirc it was stage 2+ and finally gone for
a GT2871,034 s/w with all supported parts. Finally,i swapped the gearbox from Automatik to Manual.
if you would like to keep the autobox,IMO you just have your car chipped and that's giving your
more room.the limitations of the autobox is torque converter stuff.even you put the big turbo and floor
the gas pedal all the way down, the car would never be jumping out like the manual box did.If you
tried to beat the hell out by shifting it near the redline, your box will start to slip or go into the limped mode.
i think 2871 is the biggest one for the autobox power level.get the manual swapped is all worth the effort.
conversion is pretty straightforward.you only need to grind off and slightly mods on the gearbox tunnel.
i didn't have manual box and conversion parts available here.i need them from states or europe though.

No I won't be going down the manual route. I like the idea of just pondering around. I wasn't sure if anyone had changed the torque converter over to say something out the c5 rs6. The rs6 also runs a zf gearbox with 450bhp you only really get problems with that set up when you start tuning.
As things stand I am running 270ish bhp, so going to run that for the time being.

                Don't compare an RS6 to a 5 pot Del !!

That S4 is quite a rapid beastie ... compare it to Geneandbolly 's standard S6 and manual or not you'll stuff him

I have a dvd of Suzi on Goodwood circuit and you'll be surprised how quick it shifts

My Bruv in law's S6 Avant ( manual) has a homefry chip so running about 290bhp BUT on the dyno printout the torque wasn't anymore than the 258lbft it left the factory which is the same as Suzi's torque with a Nothelle chip

                Craig ... get yours mapped

hehe i was wondering when you'd surface from the command centre, richard!!

where's this vid of your old tub giving it the welly, then? i'd love to see it in action!

as for the upgrades, i've got too many standard things to replace first like brake discs and pads, timing belt kit, tyres, interior . .. . .
