Like this post.Would also like to know about resleeving or maximum over sized pistons.

Can an NG block be added to the list. I do know it comes standard with oil squirters, and as far as I known cranks is the same as AAN.

I see that a set of rods on Audi Catalog has the same code 027198401C for AAN, RR, ADU...
Does it means that all the OEM rods now available are RS2's?
So if an engine has been rebuilt it could have RS2 rods?
It should stand more torque, or not? Stronger tuning can be done.

Maximum piston size is really governed by the headgasket, which IIRC allows for up to 82.5 pistons as stock. Terrybullwon and others have successfully machined the fire rings on the stock MLS gasket to accept larger pistons, but to be honest there is not a huge amount to be gained for the cost/effort unless you are going for the full-on race engine.
Makes sense to sleeve & reuse OE pistons if they are not too worn. I decided to spend a bit extra and fit new pistons. You can sleeve just one cylinder to repair the damage, but its a bit pikey. Do them all and do it right.

I created a CC & compression ratio calculator which is attached to this post: Use the AAN column. Change the bore size figure and the sheet will give you the displacement in CCs. You can also use the othe column to spec custom pistons.

            Me? Not. ???
I have just bought a rebuilt AAN.
It's a strange hybrid: ABY head, metal ADU head gasket.
            Maybe ADU rods?

Also 7A, KV, NG, and NM in addition to 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU.

It's the five cylinder rod that was available most recently. Not sure about now.

Similarly, the head gasket, 034103383AD, that is available now is the multi-layered steel head gasket. It is listed as the replacement headgasket for all the 20VT engines 3B, AAN, ABY and ADU.

yes I sold an aan engine I had, because I wanted to build an engine myself from scratch to my specs etc. the engine I sold didn't have uprated rods fitted anyway, so It would have had to come apart for my power goals. decided to sell on, and start from scratch with another block/head, but that engine turned out to have cylinder bore damage. have decided to sell this engine/head on now, was all for a Porsche project, but have decided to move that on as I just don't have time atm.

so complete block/head available for sale see for sale section. head is good uncracked item, block is serviceable and comes with good crank/rods/pistons etc. just wants overboring or sleeving.

many thanks for your input everyone.
                  regards

Shame. 944 conversion? Keep the faith... Stock block can do 450bhp with the right map, just have to keep the boost/torque sensible.

I'm building an engine at the moment and doing it properly is costly. The lure of a 3076 or HX35 super are calling when that's done but for now a mere RS2 setup will have to do.

I paid £1k for FCP pistons, x beam rods and full bearing set. Total budget is now £5k for a full build, clutch, new mounts etc. etc.
