    200 3b fix

    Got a client with 200 3b Audi.
What they say:replaced timing and thermostat, car started.Left for 10 min to warm up then stopped by itself. And never started again.

Seems when cranking fuel pump is not working and there is no spark.
What i do not know and will check:
-Timing marks(and crank pulley key and center bolt torque)
    -Fuses,hall,crank position and rpm sensors.
-Condition of flywheel teeth and crank position sensor pin.Maybe they locked the crank using something to lock the flywheel side and broke something.
-Condition of the distributor, pinion of distributor, rotor cap etc.

Noticed it has 3 plugs for diagnostic.Black one with positive and negative, white one that should have L line and K line has only one wire connected and a brown one with 2 wires connected.I remember K and L should be green and something color. On the white plug it has a green, and in the brown one it also has a green and a white. Is it possible the green in the brown plug is my line missing in the white plug? How do you connect vcds to your 200 3b?I only have a 2+2 and some obd2 plugs that i can wire to the car and use no 2+2 adapter.

Other thing i need your help to solve this reasonable fast:led testing the hall sensor.
Maybe you know the pin number or pin color to wire the test led. Also the pins for supply at distributor.Or some repair manual for 3b 200 and will get the info myself.

    Thank you,

it sems to me that wlywheel pin for cranks sensor is broken.. it hapends 2 time to me.
maybe when they change timming belt hold flywheel to relese mayor pulley bolt.. take starter down and rotate the engine to see is the pin ok?
than look for wires on hall sensor in distributor if are they ok.. if they are..
try to start the car and slowly rotate distributor.
only 4 things could hapend :
    1. fuel pump
    2. hall sensor
    3. crank sensor/ flywheel pin
    4. engine is not at timming marks !

Scanning 20VT Fault Codes with a VW Audi DTC Memoscanner

The first link below should have what you need for a 200 20Vt 3B. The photos show the tools needed. 2nd link shows my experiences using the 20 GBP U281 VAG VW Audi DTC Memoscanner on my 93 UrS4.

        3B 20VT fault code retrieval: http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...v.html#fcthree

My experiences with a UTC 281 VW Audi DTC Memoscanner and a 2 x 2 to OBD2 plug adapter cable like the one below: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/297428.phtml

Thx.I use vcds with 2+2 on other 20vt.But they(car looms) all have the blue(not the white as i mentioned before)plug with k and l line.In the photo you posted seems scanner uses brown plug. Will try the black plug for + and - and brown for k and l.

And further down that SJM link you would find the reason for the blue plug (for blinking out codes on cars that do not have a check engine (CEL) or malfunction indicator (MIL) light):

              Thx for info!
Vcds worked on black and brown plugs with 2+2 adapter.
Firs code rpm sensor...(knew it is common)cleared memory, cranked again, new fault:crank position sensor without rpm code...Found no pin for crank position sensor so flywheel must come out.

              Regards,

Remove the starter and retrieve the pin from the bell housing (or the end of the G4 (or G28) magnets). Then, with skill, you can weld it back on:

This would be very helpful. But client told me something about mechanics looking for something with a wire inside the clutch housing...As i know myself,90% i will not be lucky
I have an auto gearbox starter ring with the pin removed and i can machine a part that will keep 3b fly and aan automatic ring concentric. And i can drill the pin location 100% in the correct place. And i will use a round pin as automatic gearbox uses. Will make it from a drill tail and will be fine.Or maybe i will find the pin inside the housing? Will try.

                  Regards,
