I doubt MTM did anything physical to the insides of the ZF AAN autobox. However, they might have tweeked the Autotrans TCU.

Here is a list of AAN ECUs compiled by Dmitri ("prj") here on the S2Forum (who has cracked most of the Motronic codes)

    "AAN Motronic ECU Part Numbers:
551A early UrS4 with pseudo dizzy and 8k boost chip
    551AA UrS4 non-immo, Europe and America
    551B UrS4 same as 551AA, but auto
551C UrS6 incorporates all software updates from RS2, different codebase, more diagnostics
551D UrS6 same as 551C but auto (see photos at the end of this post)
551E UrS6 has a small tweak to fuel on cold start
    551F UrS6 same as 551E but auto."

    AAN ECU pin-out info: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/21009.phtml

Here is a photo of a RHD UrS6 showing the ECU and the Autotrans computer sitting above the ECU. Looks like a 551B ECU.

      Hi

      Its an S4 Ecu

It has been opened and has the mtm seal on that is unbroken

      Dated 20/11/98

      360 ps

      Also its the 551B

I also have the tcu with the mtm seal on it which has also been opened

What I would like to know is will the 551B ecu work in a manual engine

      Thanks

      Roger

        "Work" is a relative term.

        Some points for consideration:

        1. If it is real MTM, it has value, perhaps as a set to an UrS4/S6 person with an AAN/automatic who plans to go full RS2 (and then blow up the autobox because it can't handle the extra torque - which might be a tweek MTM did - lower the torque relative to equivalent chipsets for AAN manual transmission cars).

        2. If it says 360 ps, it implies that a) it already has the 3.0 Bar (300 kPa) MAP sensor (which is good) but b) it is expecting a RS2 turbo, RS2 injectors and maybe a RS2 MAF. Otherwise it would try to get 360 ps out of the stock K24-7000 UrS4/S6 turbo and injectors which will never happen and could result in some engine and/or turbo damage.

If you had the RS2 or very equivalent hardware, this ECU *could* work very well for you. HOWEVER, if you read throught the AAN ECU pin-out link that I provided, you would find three key points:

        i) 42/55 - (brown/green)- Gear selection input,e.g. P or N, - Automatic only - if an Automatic ECU is used in a manual trans application this wire needs to be grounded out to gives a 0 in the 4th position in VAG-com measuring block 005. It's default without being grounded is 1 = no start. (Thanks to "MG" on the S2forum for this info). This one, you have to do something.

ii)51/55- Not used for standard transmission cars - relates to kick-down shift point for automatic trans cars. Third digit in VAG-com measuring block 005. Normally "0" until kick-down with Autotrans when it goes to "1". (Thanks to "MG" on the S2 forum for this info). I don't think you have to do anything.

iii) 54/55- Not used for standard transmission cars - relates to automatic trans cars - don't think it would be an issue for you.
