Can you change the width of a timing belt ?

    Later Edit:

I've ordered a belt from Quattro Corner. I've checked the PN from the belt and the parts program was telling me the belt should be 4 mm wider.
I've ordered the same PN belt from my parts supplier and the belt that came was 4 mm wider.

So I was wondering if it's OK to take 4 mm from the width of a timing belt.
Is this possible without damaging the integrity of the belt?

I certainly wouldn't want to try it! Why have you got to do that anyway?

I'll say NO. If you need a narrower belt, find a narrower NEW belt.

Belts are carved out of cheese or cut off a massive roll like how they make toilet paper. The kevlar, etc. belt base is woven specifically for the application width. If narrow the belt by cutting it, you are cutting the strands that give the belt its strength.

              SO, again, NO!!

Well I've ordered a belt from Quattro Corner and the belt it arrived has a PN thate belongs to a belt 4 mm wider.
So I thought he cut the belt.
But he just confirmed the factory did that.
                I am relieved now

Just out of curiosity why do you need a narrower belt ? Are you planning on running the engine with this belt or is it a ade for keeping things timed up when you are changing the belt or carrieing out work.

Based on your revised initial post and the photo that you have now included, I think I need to re-think my comment that they don't make timing belts like toilet paper, i.e. multiple units on one long roll that are subsequently sheared into separate units. Based on the photo, I think that they might use that technique after all.

                        But they are *professionals*
