    aan modification advice

Alright then folks, just need some details about tuning my aan s4 any opinions or advice would be great.

I'm going to be after around the 400bhp mark but I am a complete novice when it comes to tuning lol
What will I need? I mean every little piece of the puzzle
What am I looking at money wise?
Am I too ambitious with the 400? I know others on the forum have alot more.
Will an engine with 160000 miles handle the extra power and also gearbox clutch ect?

Again any help or advice would be fantastic.

I'm already saving my pennies ☺

    Wrong owner for the car.

Get it perfect as oem, before you 'spend' to get 400bhp.

On an S4 ~370 would be quite easy with an RS2 EM, RS2 turbo and a remap. You might be able to get generic chips if you're lucky. Total cost ~£1k if you're prepared to wait for used parts.

Forgot about injectors & fuel pump, so another ~£400 for those.

It's a question of wait and see on the gearbox, clutch, head gasket etc.

if your engine is conpletely stock.on UrS4,the early headgasket is paper based.you need to get one updated headgasket(from late UrS6).not good for running high boost on rs2'd stage.BTDT.since it's old and fragile on
        headgasket.

I'm in the process of doing just this now...

It will cost more than £1000, I'm looking nearer £1800 all in, just with an RS2 turbo... So not even 400bhp.

Turbo (I went with RS2 for ease of mapping), exhaust manifold (I jumped on a group buy), injectors bosch green giants, fuel pump (genuine 044), fitting of parts, and finally remapping (generic).

Even second hand parts are creeping up in price.

I've drove my car round and it appears good, as above, I have replaced a lot of little things, as well as bigger items (cambelt etc), for piece of mind. Those have not been used for my maths.

It all adds up very quickly.

The car will be epic when it's all fitted.

Cheers for the input guys really appreciate it.
I have considered the rs2 setup but the parts are hard to come by and as said going up in value.
Is there a different turbo that can be used with some ease? Would I need a different manifold?

You could use another turbo, but it is becoming rarer to did someone who can map these cars... Other options of a stand alone ecu or Vems is an option, but further adds to the cost.

I had two turbos at one point as I couldn't find an RS2 turbo. I bought one if Alberts K26 hybrids. Great price, look amazing quality and would get you to 400bhp with ease.

I've always wanted the rs2 turbo, so jumped on one when it came up. It's a cheaper setup to get running albeit producing less power.

It's worth getting a manifold as cylinders 1&5 could suffer due to the poor design of the original.
Exhaust manifolds should only cost ~£350, so not a big issue in the grand scheme of things.

Ok fair enough. Least I know why to replace the manifold lol.

for 400hp and i dont rate rs2 bang for buck

                      turbo and manifold
                      injectors
                      head gasket
                      intercooler
                      3" system
                      fuel pump.

then mapping of your choice or standalone.

then wait for things to break. they may or may not.

pre4tty much as popdemionic says to be honest. just read that. then its stopping the big barge. gotta be 6 pots

look to save 5k nowadays. personally id start a parts stash. getting bits as you go for me helps create enthusiasm for the projects.

Treat it as a never ending project in need of constant refreshment.

I've been looking at my costs so far for acquiring parts to get to an RS2 spec, and I'm on £1540.

I've not included gaskets yet, or other bits and bobs that will inevitably be needed. So £1540 +/-5%.

More power increases the probability of things breaking... So I will be happy with 360 ish bhp (famous last words).
