Does anyone know about AET turbos?

My car has an RS2 set up but an AET RS-VT109 Turbo.

On a website that stocked them its only rated at 350bhp (so not as good as an RS2 Turbo)

Does anyone know if it has a .6 or a .8 hotside?
I'm guessing by the max figure its going to be a .6

The reason I ask is that I have a K27 cold side I can fit to it assuming its a K26 based Turbo and not a fettled K24.

*if its a .6 I wont bother, and will just source an RS2 or GT28.

The car is only making 330hp on a Dyno, I assume the turbo isn't a power house so it was mapped accordingly.

I'm using the car daily , so don't really want to remove the downpipe to check the turbine.

I know when i got a hybrid rebuilt at AET years ago they were very helpful, Grant if think was his name, he was the man to ask about all the aet specs

You say you want to change the cold side? but that will only bring minimal changes to the output, there were alot of awful products in the early years as the potential of the rs2 turbo was not recognised most say the turbo couldn't hit 330 bhp and it needed replacing.

In reality i'd just maximise your setup or completely change the turbo for something that will get you what you want as potentialy you are looking at map tweaks everytime you change a turbo spec and is that wort it for 10 bhp?

I know what you are saying Jamo, and if it has a .6 hot side i will just replace it with an RS2 Turbo and get a better/generic map.

If it has an .8 hotside it is worth fitting the K27 cold side, the K27/8 can make big hp, a lot more than an RS2 will anyway, I realise its going to need a proper map and other bits upgrading.. i'm not just going to mod the Turbo and carry on driving!

Grant does not work at AET any more , he's set up on his own.

yeah what I meant Gavin if you are going to pay for a map then a subtle tweak, bang for buck wise isnt worth it, i'd go Rs2 and generic or Sonics turbo

Does this turbo have the RS2 compressor cover or is it a K26? If its a K26 it will either have a plate on the front or a rectangle for it.
A decent pic or two might help ID. Its possibily either largely K26 based with a RS2 comp wheel/backplate or with a complete RS2 compressor with regular K26 turbine.
It will probably be a #6 housing as even the RS2 is a #6!

All I know is the model number, id know myself what it is if I removed it. From the outside it looks like a #6 with an RS2 size front - but then why would it be rated at 350hp?
I will take a pic tomorrow.
It is an issue if it is made from a K24, as I would not be able to put a K27 cold side on that.

It is possible to ID an #8 externally but apart from Porsche using it on a K26 for some reason, it is only really used on K27/26 hybrids. So if you don't have a K27 compressor side you probably won't have an #8!
As the RS2 hot side components are rare and expensive unless you already have them, RS2 hybrids are usually based on the regular K26 components of which there are two, one with @50mm exit and another with @56mm. The RS2 is @54mm. The RS2 has a smaller turbine wheel than a regular K26.
So its really difficult to get a direct comparsion between them other than to say only a genuine RS2 will have the charactersitics of an RS2! When its an hybrid there will be a limitation on either the cold or hot side. In fact AET rate the RS2 at the same power level so presumably its the compressor that is the restriction.
The RS2 is a superback comp wheel whereas some of the K27 are flat back so you would need to match the backplate to the comp wheel etc.
So it all comes back to what you want to achieve.

Ok, thank you, interesting about the #8 not being used in the Audis, I assumed the RS2 7200 was an #8.

The reason Porsche put the #8 in the 944 was to gain 30bhp without doing anything else, when chipped the 944s with K26#6 can only make 280/290 hp and The #8 up to 330hp.

In a Porsche the K26/8 is a flat back comp wheel, where the K26#6 is not, my K27 cold sides are flat back type. (though by the sound of it there is not much point in making a K27 from the AET)

I'm now interested enough to whip my exhaust housing off and see what turbine and housing it has.
Interesting that AET rate the RS2 turbo at 350hp also when many are running 370/380hp Maybe this is the difference between recommended bosst pressure by turbo manufacturer and the pressure run on most RS2 set ups?

I will check at the weekend, also will check the ECU for clues of the map.
The car was an N300, but they must have mapped again when the RS2 injectors/manifold/cooler/airbox/fuel pump were fitted.

I am trying to get to the bottom of why A) is a chipped RS2 spec making only 330hp and B) why has someone gone to all this effort to gain 10hp over the N300 spec it had before.

If the Turbo turns out to be RS2 spec then I will get a generic map and go from there. Id prefer this as its going to be the simple and cheaper option.

*At what power does the standard down pipe restrict?

*What boost pressure is run on a 370hp RS2 set up?

Thanks for your help so far guys! Most knowledgeable forum I have ever used.

Of course part of the puzzle is off course the other components. The RS2 used both a larger downpipe and intercooler for example which are of course beneficial and allow the extra head room.
I think the issue with this vehicle is that the original Northelle components were removed and replacement components were used to sort of recreate it.
A true RS2 (all RS components) seems to top out around 380 with say PRJ SW.
Are you sure its chipped RS2 SW as the Nothelle as I recall basically made around RS2 power albeit with different components.
Agree with not trying to hybridise a hybrid as there is no guarantee that you will be improving things. I think that turbo is effectively as close as you can get to an RS2 turbo without using the RS2 designated turbine and wheel. Depending on the turbine shaft there might be the option of the 3064 K27 wheel which AET offers. Whether its worth the trouble or not is debatable. The next leap up would be the 3072 with the #8 or something like the KX500.

Ok, from what I can see it has all it needs depending on Turbo spec to be making the power others are making.

It has all the usual RS bits, genuine too.. Its possible the turbo can do more than 350hp if that is what AET rate the 7200 at also?

Do the 370/380 hp cars run a big down pipe?

To be honest I would give AET a ring and ask for the spec. That saves unecessary dismantling! Pretty sure it will be a #6. If you have all the RS2 components I would try and research the SW origins. Obviously if its still Nothelle then it will not produce chipped RS2 levels.
If you have VCDS you may get an ID in the ecu field.

Going off the topic of the AET, I should do another thread... but..

The car was modified/mapped in 2003. I remember some tuners back then saying that 330hp was the limit of standard rods..

Could it be as simple as they stopped at 330hp and 470nm because of this?

I will call AET (thought of this earlier and convinced myself it would be a waste of time)

Dialynx fitted a 3 bar map sensor, I will investigate further on the ECU..
