That is believable... I was lazy and only checked the AAN mechanical manual... I think the ABY & ADU mechanical manual refers to the AAN manual so its just usual half-baked diligence from Audi docs of old.
I will contact the German eBay supplier to see if he will swap the 3256 for a 2084 but I will be out a chunk of notes for shipping. So annoying. I suppose it could be made work with the AAN pulley and snub bracket but I can't be bothered with that.

I will take decent offers for this tool if any AAN owner is interested - there has been zero torque applied to it and is absolute mint !

My Matra 3256 tool for a C4 UrS6 arrived the other day. It is a very good quality piece of kit and will outlast me even if used everyday. Arrived promptly and well packaged.

Paul, I would suggest you sell your Matra 3256 to a C4 member on here, and buy the 2084 tool to save on the shipping grief / cost.

A photo to demonstrate the quality should help get it sold.

I think the altered ABY tool you referred to is one I lent you that is actually owned by 'Bigfoot' on here.

The tool is now back with him down South.

        Kind regards.

I may be interested in it, if the price is right. The ones from eBay cost whooping 100 eur.

Sounds familiar - that tool was perfect... serves me right for overthinking it this time.

Standard 2084 tool will not work with the ABY pulley. The locking ring is not deep enough to engage on the lug on the pulley.
I modified mine to work by welding an extra 15mm of material to it.

I know Alex - I have to buy the 2084 and then modify it - like the tool I borrowed before... somehow I convinced myself that the 3256 was the path of last pain - now I just threw away some money in haste :-(

Possibly could - by cutting out the snub bracket shape I suppose... lets see if it sells easy or not.

Here are some pics of the problematic use of the VAG3256 tool into an ABY.

So I took some time to dig out my old paper ABY mechanical manual - which describes the differences from AAN.
                              The official counter-holder tool is actually VAG3197 (three-one-nine-seven) !

Seems like its used on a bunch of V6 and V8 engines as well.
