Help broken down - fuel pump?

Does this sound like fuel pump failure? S2 avant

Car driving fine, then when pulling off at green light car dies. Turns over fine and sometimes starts then cuts out straight away. Had AA man out and when he lies underneath and bangs fuel tank it starts and runs if I rev it, then just cuts out again.

Still at roadside waiting for recovery and searching isn't easy on my phone, but is it easy enough to replace the pump? Need to know whether to tow it to my house or a garage.

And a big thankyou to John who just happened to be passing. He kindly towed me off a busy roundabout before anyone ran in the back of me.

Couldn't believe it...the first time I see his car and he's rescuing me. Sounded great by the way.

Looks like the boot sound deadening has never been lifted...206k on original fuel pump cant be too bad.

        Hoping its just fuel pump

I think I still have my stock coupe pump you could try if stuck for the weekend?

Not too bad to change, can be fiddly to unclip.

Mike, sorry about meeting you today in unfortunate circumstances but glad to be able to help.........any live lane isn't a nice place to be immobile.
We were home-bound after a week near Aviemore, hopefully will see you and the S2 for the "west coast tour".
            John.

Going to shorten that rope! Didn't realise it was that long

I had the exact same problem as yours and it turned out to be the fuel pump.

After running for a few minutes it would just cut off.

Try putting direct power from your battery to the fuel pump and if it cuts out after running for a few minutes you will know it's the culprit.

Bridge the fuel pump relay with a spare starter 'z' bridge

You'd better watch yourself if Dave ever gets to hear about this.

Frankly, if people want to ignore my replace at 100K mile recommendation or risk failure away from home, I don't give a flying....

We're Scottish and don't like replacing stuff until its well and truly boogered! Give the pump a good knock with a hammer and it'll probably do another 10k miles
