    Knacked MAF

Dropped the Air filter lid today and the thin Wire inside the Maf has snapped
    Car wont run now ,
I take it the Maf is a Vortex flow meter?

Can you replace the wire? if so what thickness is the wire?
If not has anyone got a second hand one? or know where i can get this repaired?????

I'm proper pis8ed off with this car now,

had to change the inner bushes yesterday Again! only had them on 2 months and the bush has completely come apart Knackering the inside of the Tyre (michelin pilot sport = 130pound)

Had a Powerflex Bush off my old Coupe to replace the knacked one.....Fitted two Goodyear F1's........

The wire is platinum, so unless you have a spare reel of platinum in the garage, its a new or a re-conned one unless someone has a spare they could sell.

They arent vortex type. Those are found a very small amount of cars such as Mitsubishi and Proton(mits. engines). Many jap stuff.

The wire is non replaceable (someone will know tell me theyhave done this!). Only way to cure this one is to buy a new/recon unit.

They are very delicate little ******s, but i guess you have found out the hard way

Mass Air Flow (hot wire type). Wire is kept at a constant temperature, and ECU knows air flow by the amount of extra current needed to keep the wire hot.

there is a man in the porsche club who has been repairing MAF units on 928's, he has access to platinum wire/can repair the unit.

i can get a contact number if you want,

he will need a 2nd MAF (functioning) to take readings/parameters from so he can correctly re-set parameters on the broken one.

His work is 100% and very reasonably priced too
            on holiday from S2 ownership
