As some of you may know it was having engine troubles with my s2 I was waiting for a local firm to do it up here but they were taking so long it was a joke, so i rebuilt the engine my self, the engine block I had cleaned by professionals got that back assured it was 100% clean and they would rebuild a engine In it as it was, then I cleaned it as well with brand new fluid! then used a donar crank! new mains! big ends, forged rods, new piston rings, bought a port and polished head that looked to be in excellent condition, new oil pump, new oil cooler, all new hoses so there was 100% no risk of contamination! I then give the turbo to a company to rebuild put it all back together! ive only went steady with her and covered 840miles in that time I've dropped the oil 3 times with new filter and the oil has always been immaculate with 2.2bar oil pressure at 80 degrees oil temp, when the engine was hot I started getting a tiny puff of smoke of the back on tick over, only when hot and the engine was idling, soon as I revved the car or pulled of it went, still driven superb, last week I dropped the turbo off and returned it to the people that refurbished it, with it been under warranty, they've rang and said it's scored the shaft which is caused by oil contamination, this I find very very hard to believe as the engine was built in clinical conditions, the oils been dropped 3 times, has anyone heard anything like this before?
Turbo problems?

sounds like a typical turbo place avoiding replacing it. warranties dont seem to be worth jacksh1t when it comes to turbosComment

I know in my own mind I couldn't have done anything more to put the engine together any cleaner, all the bits apart from the rods are from audi, even the oil pump was brand new from audi, the engine runs spot on and as said has 2.2 bar oil pressure when hot on tick over, the oil is like honey aswell, I've changed it 3 times with quantum platinum 10-40 what they recommend for the engine, I've heard this turbo company are renowned for not honouring any warranties, when I have spoke to people, just unsure what to do next?Comment

I didn't replace it but it was stripped right down and thoroughly cleaned before re assembly, and I used the oil feed pipe from my donor engine not the original one, I can't see how anything is in the engine, any tiny parts which I can't see how they are are but if they were surely the oil filter would catch as the oil pump pumps it there before going anywhere else? I'm just unsure if it is maybe some thing in the oil that's caused it which I can't get my head around at the moment or faulty turbo, parts or workmanship on the turbo which they are trying to avoid and blaming it on the oil?Comment

Its bad enough trying to keep our cars on the road, you dont need issues like this.
I have two RS2 turbos both have been rebuilt and one of them is going on my car shortly.
Stories like this make me worry, all that effort and bang goes the hard work, bank account drained again.
It certainly sounds like the turbo could have been at fault. Is it that hard to clean, rebuild and balance a turbo? What turbo are you using?
Is your engine ok?
Its very hard to prove one way or another what caused the failure what are you planning?

Tell me about it, I'm 11k into the car now, spent 2-3k on the engine rebuild parts alone, it's turbo active at wynyard, I've spoke to local garages and non of them will use them as they say they don't honour warranties, I've only just found this out, I'm going to get a oil contamination report done on the engine oil that I've dropped out of it, then I'll get the turbo back off hem and a independent report done..Comment

For future needs use AET turbos they are fantastic, if you need a cheep one to tide you over PM me, good luck with sorting the car outComment
