    Noisy lifter, hopefully

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a ticking noise on idle when I pulled up after driving around 60km. Checked the oil level and it was just on minimum

Car had only been serviced about 5000km ago but the mechanic had put 5w 30 fully synthetic oil in which oilman on here told me is to thin and suited to newer vag cars he said 10w 40 is best. Thinking the thin oil may have increased consumption.

I bought the only oil available where I was ( valvoline 15w 50 mineral oil ) topped up and the noise stopped immediately. Drove the 60km home and got a mechanic friend to change the oil with a full PAO and esther blend synthetic 10w 40. Started the car and the ticking was back on idle. He says it sounds like a lifter.

Could the low oil have damaged something other than lifters or is this the most likely cause?
Should I just replace all the lifters if I do need to replace one? Car has done 116000miles.

I'd run it for a while and see if it gets any worse or better before condemning a lifter. Hopefully it'll come right after the fresh oil's circulated for a bit

I think thats what I'll do as it hasn't been driven since the change. As I was backing out of the garage we noticed fuel leaking everywhere. Turns out the fuel lines where corroded under one of the rubber mounts and when changing the fuel filter we must have disturbed them. So I need to get new lines before I can drive it.
