    3B with RS2 turbo,what to do?

    Hi guys!

    A friend of mine bought a nice dark blue '90 3B S2
He asked me to come along to check it out.
I found out that the engine had a brand new RS2 turbo installed.
After a quick testdrive i did notice that the ecu was in safe mode,so no power...(MFTS?)
Multiple N75 valves tested, none gave the 'click',MFTS will be checked tomorrow...
Also the engine is'nt steady on idle. Around a minute on +-900rpm,two seconds 700rpm and back to 900..

All the rest is stock 3B,i think the previous owner did not know what he installed after the stock turbo died..
What would be the next step,he is planning to run the 3B 275hp MTM software...
My thoughts, custom 'safe' remap because of difference in spool using RS2 turbo.

Did someone run in to the same 'problem'?

Goncratulations-for the car and the upgrade :-)

Power loss could be more than MFTS- boost line leaking, SUV, N75, LMM, IATS- only to point out a few of them. The idle issue could also be boost line leak, so at first I would do a pressure test, and have very close look on the hoses from turbo all up to throttlebody.

To be honest- I would go for RS step. At least manifold and injectors, maybe intercooler. Not that expensive, but then there are bit more than 300hp no problem, with the right mapping.

Thank you for your congrats (speaking on my friends behalf)
I forgot to mention,my friend doesnt want to upgrade the car....
He wants it to run safe, between 260/290hp with the parts the car is running now.
He has in mind to run the MTM software,my thoughts are- custom remap because of different turbo he is using atm...

Maybe i have to offer him a much better stock s2 turbo ,nstead of the poor, worthless ,(shiny, new) bad turbo he is running now.. Free swap ofcourse

We will dive in to it tomorrow

I cannot see an rs2 turbo running well on stock s2 bits.

Either fit a stock turbo or fit RS2 injectors, 7A fpr, rs2 exhaust manifold and 3b rs2 ecu, exhaust and intake will help things.

I would use the car with the n75 unplugged so you only get spring boost until it is sorted either way.

If he does not want any upgrade I also would change the turbo to original. He will loose lower torque with the RS2 turbo. But in name of friendship- do it the honest way ;-) maybe a deal: stock turbo anad good map against his RS2 one.

We checked the MFTS today,no luck...
Tomorrow hopefully we have the chance to try the ecu from another 3B s2.
              Maybe the mapsensor is broken..

My friend is aware of the s2/rs2 turbo pricing difference, and i would never take advantage of people close to me, earlier on i was just kidding...
I told him the thing is worth around 800/900 because it's a brand new unit..
The unit is very welcome here, because i own two RS2 cars. So a new spare on the shelf is not bad..
Maybe he wants me to have it and make some sort of deal,we'll see.. I am not pushing him to do just that..

The setup he is running now is a bad choice,so i advised him to run full rs2 setup, needing RS2 EM,RS2 injectors, intercooler, downpipe and fuelpump. And ofcourse the rs2 mapping for 3B ecu..

              ORRRR,
Remove the RS2 turbo, buy stock S2 turbo and run it with the MTM remap he wanted earlier on.. What he wants to do with the no longer needed RS2 unit is totaly up to him...

              Thanks all for the advice!
