    Thoughts on these eBay Con-rods.

Anyone got any opinions on these?

I building up a strengthened bottom end on a budget and figure these could be of use, I'm capable of balancing them end to end myself.

I'm guessing their not rifle drilled to supply oil to the little ends and that puts me off more than the cheapo price.

to me most of the cheaper steel rods look the same. ive always used scats. not rifle drilled. i dont see an issue now even though i thought it maybe at the time. think pauters are drilled. scats and rs2 shells worked fine.
i have bought all my sets from paul at boostfactory.net aka killa in the states. then had them weight matched as this seems to be the biggest issue i found. i had the piston and rods weight matched, no block balancing or crank balancing. engine felt miles smoother as a result even with just this. shows how much out the factory setup must be

I think that you may expect not much quality from these connecting rods
if you want high power, buy good decent rods because otherwise the cost will be much higher if your engine is damaged by poor rods

Not something to cheap out on IMHO, buy the best you can afford.
I'm sure the forging is fine, the machining tolerances may be ***** and the weight matching per set could be way off.
Integrated Engineering do a good quality rifle drilled 144mm rod, around £400 a set IIRC, if I was doing another build that's what I'd buy.

These don't look bad. Not that looking at them can tell you much!

I paid £850 back in the day for my Carrillos. I very much doubt I would do that again with all the choice there is out there now.

same again they look the same. all seem to look the same but like alex says its tolerences.

ive heard of rods being not true on the crank fitment and weights can be "weigh" out.

you could ask the seller to send you the weights of 4 rods seperately this would give you an idea of how well they have been matched as sets.

you will find horror stories on many types of rods. question is is this the rod or the assembly.or both.

They look like a better buy, cheers Steve.

I'm not going to cheap out on rod's, I won't need them for at least 12 months, just 'weighing' up my options.

Ideally I'd like some that are rifle drilled.

No matter what you buy, have them measured up prior to fitting! I've posted this somewhere else here but have a mate that bought a set from a reputible salesman from Norway, and had big issues with the rods eating the ACL bearing top coating within hours. Verdicht: Machining on main bore unround 0.04mm whilst clamped!

I agree that a lot of rods showing up are made from the same Chinese blanks, you can source them directly from alibaba.com...

Most of the blank forgings come from China now, even many of the good old big names use Chinese blanks. Simply because the industri has moved to China, there's not many places left able to make them in the western world. Or make a profit doing it. Actually the question of the day is, are the chinese making all or most of the machining of the rods too. I think they are, even though many of the sellers clame their rods are machined or "finished" in the west.
