AAN ECU help - opened and looks modified...

    Hi,
I have bought a complete car Audi S4 with a AAN engine.
I opened the ECU to look inside to see if it was modified.
Now it looks like there is a extra bored fitted which I would guess is to allow higher boost levels to "trick" stock map sensor but there only seams to be one EPROM on the bottom board? My experience with the motronic ECUs on Vauxhalls it needs both chips to run? Bottom being boost top being fuel?
If has a sticker saying TK BOOST on the bottom chip

Anyone shed any light? Will try and upload some photod

MTM chips have an encryption board under the fuel/timing chip but not the boost chip.

By sounds of it I am missing the fueling chip.
Going off my experience with motronic ECU you have put a board in place which tricks the map sensor voltage readings to allow larger boost reading over what the stock map sensor will allow. Which mine looks like it has had fitted.

That is not how motonic chipsets are done for these.

The software is modified in the eproms with the maps changed for boost, fuel, timing etc.

The encryption board is to stop the software being copied with an eprom reader.

How do they raise the boost past what standard 250kpa map sensor will allow?
This is how mine looks inside (example photo)

Normally if you wanted to run more than 1.5 bar of boost then a 3 bar map sensor would be fitted, and appropriate software.

A superchips setup leaves the stock map sensor, has a boost chipset with boost limit raised or removed and flies blind on mechanical boost, not recommended.

What boost is the car running currently?

The stock digital boost gauge in the dash displays absolute boost pressure, so treat 1.0 as 0. If the gauge reads 2 bar boost there is 1 bar above atmospheric.

Sorry if I have misunderstood, do you mean there is no eprom at all in the socket on the top board?
