Fuel check valve using a Bosch 044 pump

Gents I was just about to place my order for a Bosch 0 580 254 044 Inline Fuel Pump.

But just before I did I read this.

The 044 was originally intended for external tank use. HOWEVER, it can and has been installed by many many people INSIDE the fuel tank. Works fine.

(This one DOES need an external check valve, as detailed by Doug).

I read what Doug said but it does not mention the valve used

I cannot find any detail on which non return valve to use, did any body fit one and were did you put it?

      Thanks.

      Also found this from UrS4boy

No non-return check valve = harder on your starter due to longer cranking times since the fuel pump is NOT energized with just the key turned to ON. It needs at least 13 RPM to trigger the ECU to energize the fuel pump relay (which in turn energizes the fuel pump).

All 044 pumps that I have bought has have the check valve fitted from factory. No need to buy any billet bling valves.

044 pump has the check valve form factory but if you're going to use the car as DD.you need to get the aftermarket check valve since the stock 044 check valve caused the fuel pump whining like crazy and even worse once you have less than 1/2 tank.i bought the one from speedflow. the whining noise almost gone.

Are you saying remove the Bosch check valve and fit an alternative in the same place?

Seems to me that quite a few people are complaning about the noise coming from the Bosch fuel pump check valve.

It also looks like on a single pump system there is basically a few issues to look at.

Fuel restriction because of the check valve being fitted.

                      Noise from the check valve

Without the check valve being fitted it will cause a drop in pressure when you switch off the ignition thus requiring the cranking of the engine to take a bit longer until the pressure/flow comes up.

Not sure what to do yet more reading required.

Must also say I am edging towards using the check valve that comes with the pump.

My friend is running 570hp with one 044(with stock valve) in tank, no noise, no signs of restriction. I'm running two 044's without any check valves and the noise is quite hard. They are outside the tank though. With in tank solutions a check valve is must, other vise you need to crank the engine a lot before it starts up.

I am 99.999999% sure the stock 044 with check valve is what I will go for.

If I can get the basket and strainer.

                          Thanks for all the advice

The valve is easy to change later if you are not happy with the stock one.
