    RS2 turbo broke, advise please...

Whilst over at Wörthersee, and taking in the amazing mountain passes on offer in the area, my turbo started making a whistling noise. Also a little smoke on start up from cold. Otherwise ok. Thought it may be a split hose, however on further investigation the turbo spindle was stiff to turn.

Took it real easy and it got me all the way home (1000m).

Took the turbo off today and found this.

    Couple of questions please,

Can you tell from the picture what caused the failure? My car has MRC chip and I am told makes approx. 360hp. Could it have been EGT / high altitude / leaned out? Or is it just old age, car has done 90k miles.

Can you still get the turbine wheel / shaft for the RS2?

Is now the time to upgrade to billet RS2 or K26/27? Have been thinking of going the route Avantus did with K26/27 hybrid, Wagner ex manifold, injectors, downpipe and prj map for around 440hp. Needs to look original, standard airbox and reliable.

Anyones comments / advise much appreciated.

    Cheers Pete

Had mine done by CR turbos. Great door to door service, and a good job.
The Rs2 turbo is not cheap to repair.
