Next week I'm fitting a rs2 hybrid hoffer76 turbo can't wait for extra power any body in past have fitted one and drivin it what to expect in spool up and compared to a rs2 turbo with generic chip and full 3" tbe full rs2 setup basically

Get it custom mapped or a map designed for the turbo at least!

Lloyd got 390+bhp out of one of these on a near stock RS2 with prj custom map.

How would these turbos compare to the Volvo 7400? I see that they are good for a decent top end improvement over the Volvo unit but is it at the sacrifice of lag? I'm keen to keep lag to a minimum if possible.

Hi I've been in a Swb Quattro with full rs2 engine conversion with uprated ic and generic chip that's 370bhp+ but that had boost pipe problem so didn't feel what the power was like in it as it's just standard rs2 turbo I've got a billet compressor wheel on mine so it should spool better we will see I'll let you know when its fitted

To get the most from it, you will require a custom map. It may work just fine on a stock map, it may not. Not really a gamble worth taking IMHO.

I haven't driven an S2 fitted with a Volvo K24 7400 so I can't make a comparison but with decent mapping I wouldn't describe the performance of a genuine RS2 K24 7200 as laggy, just plain savage...

My 3B Coupe is full RS2 spec running Hoffer software and yeah the turbo obviously spools up later than stock but there's not really any real lag as such compared to a stock RS2 or my K26/7 equipped example both of which are pretty docile until over 3K RPM or so.

Stock RS2's do feel quite laggy but that's purely down to the mapping and perhaps the exhaust cam plays a part but once your used it the feeling is actually quite nice.

Micheal, can you not get a chip set from Hoffer for the turbo you have? As Rusty says it may well be fine (or not) on generic RS2 software but you certainly won't see the full benefit of the billet wheel. Or are you planning on using the generic chips as stop gap until you get a custom map? In which case I'd want a wideband Lambda sensor and AFR gauge fitted at the very least, preferably along with an EGT gauge if your planning on giving it any real stick.
