Lubrication questions (oil paths)

So as per title I am wondering how the oil flow goes.

Does the pressurized oil go through the upper or the lower hole in the block.

Then it enters the outside or inside of the oil filter?

Now to some thoughts and observations I made looking at dry sump block off plate options.

Most are feeding oil in the original entrance as the stock oilpump does and block off the filter housing (using external filter options). Prospered plate uses the upper hole that seems to connect to the inner part of the filter.

Probably the upper hole goes straight to the engine and the lower through the filter to the engine.

That said I can't find a reason not to use the original filter since the extrarnal housings use same filter elements.

Any thoughts?
