    engine refit rs2

been a while since i removed engine from rs2 to clean everything up. originally when i removed it i took the head off, and then the block from the gearbox. as originally i was just going to rebuild the head and refit, but got carried away and decided to take the lot out.

so the box is still in the car atm

im just thinking of the best way to install it all back in the car.

should i remove the gearbox and then attach it to engine before dropping the lot back in? im just thinking the bellhousing bolts could be tricky to get to with the head back on the engine?

also how many of the ancillerie items can i fit to the engine before it goes back in? exhaust manifold/turbo/alternator/inlet etc? or shall i just put the main block and head in and then fit ancilleries once its back on the mounts?

    regards

From where you are now I'd fit the bottom end first, then the head after.
IMO It's always easier to install engine and gearbox together, if you are dealing with a tall engine

engine block and head are already together outside the car on a stand, so engine needs to go in as a tall block.

just thinking if its better to remove the box and attach it to the block and head outside of the car?

and how much of the engine i can build up on the stand before putting it into the car!

also any sensors or bits or bobs i should replace or check while the engine is out before it all goes back in again.

basically the engine came out and has had all new timing belt/water pump items replaced, along with crank sprocket and bolt, aux belts, gaskets etc. having all the little brackets etc powdercoated and all the aluminium engine components vapor/aqua blasted so they all look like new. also done thermostat, aux rad and oil cooler. all engine service bits/filters/plugs etc.

Just bolt on the exhaust manifold and install the engine like that.
The inlet manifold should be pretty much the last thing to go on.

Exhaust manifold is faster to fit out the car.

Stick the engine in, bellhousing bolts and starter in, then fit turbo, coolant pipes, intake manifold and ancillaries.

Just watch the sump on the subframe, sometimes its handy to drop the front of the subframe for clearance and access to some of the small lower bellhousing bolts.

If the clutch plate is lined up it will just slip straight on.

Don't fit the flywheel sensors until the engine and box are together or they my get bashes.

thanks, have decided i think i will remove the gearbox, along with all the front end suspension and have all of that refurbished as well. then pop engine in complete with gearbox, then bolt up suspension/subframe from underneith once all the engine and box is back in place.

may as well do it properly.

will add some pics and writeup to a project thread at some point once i have all the parts back from blasters

                  thanks
