    RS2 Turbo/EM Fitted - Turbo Coolant Lines

    Hi,

Finished fitting RS2 Turbo and Exhaust Manifold over the weekend. I'm pleased to say I didn't break any manifold-head studs geting them out. They all either came off by breaking the bond with stud extractors and then backing them out by locking two nuts together and turning the inside one.

I also managed to tighten up all the tricky bolts on the bottom of the RS2 Manifold with a cheap 12mm spanner cut in half. Just enough clearance. Also with the front of the car apart I finished fitting the Samco hoses (yes, they had been lying around for awhile)

The turbo I am using is actually on of the KKK/Garrett RS2 Replica's. New oil and coolant lines were required.

The only question I have now is how to get access to the coolant line that returns round behind the cambelt to somwhere either on the front of the engine, or near the water manifold. It is a metal line for as far as I can see, but I don't have an exact idea where it connects. For the moment I have cut it and clamped braided hose over the end to feed the turbo, but I would like to make it neat and connect straight to the original outlet. Any advice, with pictures would be great

Now I just have to ask Mihnea to send me some new software, add the injectors, and I'm set.

I have previously done what you have done on my car - cut the metal hose - and jubileed a hose on.

Now I have replaced the metal hose with coolant hose direct from the banjo adapter on the front of the water manifold. The hose comes round the front of the cam cover.

Ah yes - of course it is an S2!

Doug - yes, I just need to figure out how to get access to the pipe that has a banjo bolt on the front of the water manifold - I had taken off the crossmemebr, intercooler and aux radiator, timing belt cover, but could not see how to get access to it. Any ideas?

Not quite sure what your trying to do but..... I think this is the pipe you mean, its quite easy to access with the inlet manifold removed. I think if you want to remove the metal pipe alltogether, you may have to remove timing belt etc....

Yes - that looks like the other end of the pipe I am trying to get at. I will give it another go this weekend with the inlet manifold removed.

            thanks

              Quick question?

Did the turbo and EM come out working from the top of the car? i.e., there is no need to get underneath the car to get the turbo and EM off?

I'm about to get my turbo off for an inspection and am wondering about the RS2 replacement but would like to know whether I'm going to be needing to get under the car...

              Cheers.

You need under the car to remove the oil and water lines from under the turbo.

Nope! You do not have to remove the timing belt, just untight the screws of the covering stuffs (sorry, my english is a bit little, I mean the black metal stuff behind the timing belt).

You can remove the oil and water lines from the top of the car, but must go under the car to remove downpipe before take any work on removing turbo and EM (and to remove the comlete lower oil line from the turbo).

BTW I'm making a custom EM. There's a pic of the modified oil/water pipes.

I'll make a thread about the whole project when I finished it.

I had the bumper, crossmember and aux radiator off. Most of the access was from the top, but the whole job is made easier with some access from underneath. Particularly to drop the downpipe for better access up top. I didn't really need to jack up the car at all as there was enough space after taking most of the front off
