    Mapped 7200 vs mapped 7000

    Hi guys,

So, here i am tonight, sipping a rather tasty bottle of Jack Daniels, hmm my favourite!! And wondering how exaclty does a mapped 7200 compare against a mapped 7000.

I've read various threads saying that a 7200 in standard trim putting out 315bhp can be quite laggy, however with a decent map this is improved significantly.

I have a volvo 7400 ready to be fitted but due to my current location there is no one close by that can live map it.

The tried and tested 7200 is a quite tempting option, not just for the plug and play nature but also to say that i've tried it. I'm quite intrigued i must admit.

So, how much does a map bring alive the 7200 compared with the standard 315 output and how much laggier is it compared to a mapped 7000.

Look forward to hearing from you all, until then, time for another cheeky Jack and coke

    Cheers
    Guys

I went from a mapped 7000 to mapped 7200, to put it simply there is 500rpm difference in it (~2500rpm v 3000rpm).

I went with a 7200 for that very reason... Mapping.

Cheeky chip from PRJ, or £500+ for live mapping.

Do I notice the extra lag? YES,
    Do I mind? A little,
Does being on boost make up for any shortcomings of the 7200? YES

Here is my dyno plot for today on a K24-7200 with a billet wheel if that gives you an idea

Really depends on how and where you drive. If it is mostly pottering around town, then anything K24-7200 will be a bit laggy compared to even a stock-mapped K24-7000. However if you do a lot of motorway driving, then a mapped K24-7200 (and appropriate hardware (EM and injectors, etc) will give you in the range of 350 to 380 hp (depending on the software) and will make motorway driving a dream. You mearly think about overtaking and it just happens almost miraculously fast.

The compromise is a Stage 1+ K24-7000 yielding around 280 hp from stock turbo, EM and injectors. Add a bit of umph with an RS2 EM and turning down the WG spring and it will be happy camper time.

Just talking to an UrS6 friend who when RS2 at the same time I did back in 2004. He also has a chipped B7 2.0T A4 avant and is happier driving it around town than his RS2'd UrS6, because the response and torque is there, down low, with less lag. He is seriously thinking about taking the UrS6 back to Stage 1+ (leaving the RS2 EM in place). He already has the 3Bar MAP sensor in the ECU and only need to re-install his K24-7000 and stock injectors (and re-source the Stage 1+ software sold back in 2004 to help finance the RS2 upgrades). I went from stock to RS2 and skipped the Stage 1+ stage.

        Just some data points.

I'm facing the same damn dillema. I can't choose a turbo to upgrade to. Plug&Play RS2 or a K24-7400. I really don't want to change any layout in the engine bay regarding airboxes and intercooler piping. The 7400 will probably force me to do that.

If anyone decides to sell the k24-7400 let me know.

As a side note I had/had rs2 chipped and rs2 now with stroker and BIG turbo means I don't mind lag a lot.

I have driven an urs4 stock and it is simply veeeery slow. The only option for k24-7000 is on a high boost engine with short gears for rally.

I would chose k24-7400 before the rs2 turbo, les lag and more torque on low rpm's.Air box stay in his place, you just need to change the "michelin" hose

Doesn't the 7400 have larger inlet compared to 7000/7200? I have bought a silicone MAF->Turbo hose and would like to keep it. :/

Afternoon gentleman, well the bottle of Jack didn't last long last night, feeling rather fragile today!! Thanks for all the comments and info, really wish there was someone close by with an RS2 setup i could take for a spin.

Has anyone got a dyno plot for a mapped standard RS2 turbo "non billet" so i can compare against the billet version?

I've got an RS2 manifold here waiting to be fitted for when i go for the upgrade, do you reckon i would notice the difference fitting it now on a mapped 7000? Exhaust/DP is stock 2.5" straight through to the standard back box, it's sheer bliss on the ears now compared to my previous setup!! I can actually hear the 5 pot burble rather than just DRONE!!!!

                    Off Topic sorry but......

A Scottish man that states Jack Daniels as his favourite....
Perhaps you refer to the barrel that was used to contain Jack Daniels and then used to mature a good Single Malt?

Otherwise...... You're not serious are you?

7200 is the worst thing you could have for a daily car. That dinosaur does nothing, nothing under 3000 rpm.Nothing means nothing.Aspirated 2.3 is a rocket under 3k rpm compared to the 7200 even on rs2(full rs2 setup).
If not a daily things change.Change looking at plug&play 7200 option/reasonable power gain.If not to consider plug&play,or long term durability get ball bearing turbine, the smallest you can fit for your power target.

This is how i consider 7200 feels when turned:

here is an overlay, two E-S2s, same dyno, same day. One had a stock k24-7000 re-mapped, 3" down pipe, no cat, lightweight flyweel. vs k24-7400 STOCK downpipe, factory cat, standard flywheel ect.
